Franklin Option

So as to not completely derail someone else's valuable thread I'd like to open a discussion on the Franklin option for a 170B.

I have been exploring the various "re-engining" options and this one; at least on first pass seems to have merit so let's discuss it, the floor is open.

Re: Franklin Option

I really like the franklin engines. Probably one of the few that does. I work on 2 175s that have the 220, and did work on another 175 and 170 that had it. We have a letter from TC that allows us to use a different prop on the 175, a bigger mccauley that really bumps the perfomance up. The 170B had a hartzell on it. I'm quite sure the cowling is stock but can't remember 100%. Looks the same.

Re: Franklin Option

MTV answered the cowling question for me, next one is engine mount. I realized the mount itself is like very different but how about the firewall attachments, are they in the same location or is a new firewall required ?

Brad, are the floats on that seaplane EDO 2440s? They’re obviously EDOs, maybe 2425s?

Re: Franklin Option

I really enjoy my Frank, as I've posted elsewhere. I built mine (under loose but legal supervision).

Feel free to ping me with curiosities and I'll do my best to clarify, but there are several sources more experienced than I.
