Now here at KHQM they had to buy fuel out of Canada because there was none locally. It was quiet expensive so for the past 5 months they have been trying to sell fuel at $4.34 and can't understand why no one is buying it when just 15 minutes south it is available for $3.30.

We got some real marketing geniuses working there.

Fuel prices

Take what ever price you have now and add $0.70 to it for the proposed FAA give away to the major airlines.

Also add a user fee to every weather briefing, FAA proposing to give DUATS contract to Lockheed.

Add user fee for every use of airspace, ifr, flight following, or FSS.

Write your Congressman and Senator today if you thing the above are a rip off.

Cheers,

Tom

iceman wrote:Was just wondering, since we have such a wide ranging group here, what gas prices are getting to in your area. Here in San Diego at Gillespie field they Gouge us at almost $4.00 a gallon. Most of us fly to cheaper gas in the so cal area. Big Bear is $3.30 a gal last time I was up there. Corona is about the cheapest and is close to Big Bear. We never can figure why or how Big Bear can always beat the other guys since they have to haul gas up there in trucks all the way up that mountain. Just wondering if there's much of a difference where you guys are... Iceman

Here at Hawthorne, NV (KHTH) it's $4.26 a gallon.

Got the STC for mogas in my O-300, but the damn car gas is pushing $3.00 a gallon this week. At 8 GPH it's not worth hauling cans.

Now can someone explain to me how these trickle down economics work, and how we're all supposed to benefit from Chevron's record 30 billion in profits this past year?

Thanks.

Yeah, I'm gonna start going there for gas, and for lunch. Problem here is that the county has a small tank, and can't get a good bulk rate.

Bought gas last week at Big Bear Lake CA. Its among the cheapest gas in ALL of Ca (interesting note that they can haul that gas up the mountain and still sell it cheaper than car gas!) Its a beautiful place, gorgeous lake and mountain scenery! Be ready for density altitude of nearly 9000' if its warm and LOTS of LAX area pilots looking to get away. The traffic pattern is always full (most pilots heading the same direction thankfully).

The fuel concession must be owned by the restaurant. We were running behind last trip so while I pumped the gas, my girl went for a couple sandwiches to go. One ham and cheese and one turkey sandwich both on plain old wonderbread, 2 sodas cost us READY FOR THIS????!!!!! $28.00!!!

I'll go back (on a weekday to avoid the traffic) but I'm packing my own lunch or heading into town!

There's a great little restaurant about a block east of the airport. Iforget the name but It's a womans name I believe. Just walk towards the street go left as soon as you can and go a block and turn south to the main street. It's right there.Great breakfast. Iceman

#$%@*%$#

Yep, I feel the same way. Gas at BNO is $3.909, down from $4.259 just put in $103 bucks for 1.8 hours of flying.

Have the auto STC so I suppose I'll start using it. Dang auto is $2.749 and climbing. City wants a flowage few if you pump your own.

So I'll have to land on the back County road and fill up there. Government just wants to make a guy break the rules.

Flowage fee? What a bunch of BS! I'd tell them I'll start paying the flowage fee when they start schlepping the gas cans up and down the ladder to earn it!

Cessna Skywagon -- accept no substitute!

yep, but

I should'nt gripe so much as I only pay $25.00 a month for a hanger. Still the flowage fee gripes my golf! Golf that other four letter word.

I sit on the Airport board too. Still trying to convence the City Council on airport issues is a bear. All non flyers, and they think the Airport is a cash cow. Oh you have a plane? You must have big money? My plane is cheaper than your Escalade. :-({|=

Fuel prices

It's been a while since I worked at an FBO but the way we worked it the price of the fuel changed with the price of a fuel load that day, not based on when and for what you bought your last load. The price never went down below a level that made money for that load, but did float up if the delivered price of fuel went up. Yeah you made more per gallon when the price went up but they were always trying to fund the next load up front. Not right, I know, but that's the way price gouging works. As my fuel man tells me when explaining why the fuel prices are so high "We have it and you need it." Go to airnav.com and you can find the best fuel prices in your area or flight plan a route based on fuel price. It works well but you have to pay attention to the last update for fuel price at each field. When you buy fuel update the site so your buddies have the most current info.
