I ran my 1 KW Yamaha for 3 hours today at work, once the crane cab reads 90+ I fire it up and close the doors. The little AC unit I have draws 450 watts on high so a pretty good match for the genset. I remember that in my research prior to buying it, it weighs 1 pound (ONE POUND!!!) less then the 1 KW Honda, was 1 decibel quieter, and was at least equally highly regarded for lifespan etc. I burn nothing but E-0 in it, always run it dry at the end of the year, and it's never failed to start in about 2 or 3 pulls at most.

I don't pack it in the plane, no need (Starbucks Instant is my coffee fix for plane camping) though if I ever get the urge to winter camp (no thanks....) with the skis on, it would be more than enough for my engine pre heater.

A float flying acquaintance of mine carries a nice little Ryobi unit on occasion, he flies a 185. The only spec I remember about it was the weight, only 16 lbs and it's power by propane. It will accept either the smaller camping style bottles or a hose extension to a larger bottle. He doesn't run it for long extended periods of time, he enjoys the serenity of a remote lake as much as anyone. He usually uses it to inflate his portable boat and recharge the battery on his fish finder at the end of the day. I don't recall it being overly intrusive.

I’ve used a 1000 watt generator to power my oil pan heater on a frigid morning. Works great and the oil is 80 degrees in less than an hour. Definitely wouldn’t think of running it through the night. I prefer relatively primitive camping. I use a jet boil for making coffee.
