Why keep all those EI guages with the engine monitor? Otherwise, looks great.

True that, and good on you…..just curious if there was another reason.

It does look good, and I can appreciate the amount of work that’s gone into it.

Re: Getting Closer

A bit of redundancy I suppose you may notice I also have installed two direct reading mechanical gauges, oil pressure and a tach

Re: Getting Closer

If / when I get a digital oil temp / presusre instrument,
I plan on keeping the mechanical oil pressure gauge.
Just in case.

I have had to send my JPI 830 back to the factory for a fault. Its was gone for quite a number of weeks. Had I had the TSO'd 900 or 930 with the factory gauges removed I would have been grounded.

Re: Getting Closer

I’ve been running all digital engine gauges for quite a few years on several planes. Never had a problem. That statement probably jinxed me, though… #-o .

That said, in past, I’ve had an oil pressure gauge go south, an ammeter crap out and two mechanical tachs give up. So, choose your flavor. But, at least in the US, a failed instrument still grounds the plane, at least till a mechanic disables and placards it.

I for one, like digital engine gauges.

Probably a good call. I had an EI oil pressure indication fail on me over the middle of nowhere Mississippi. It wasn't an instantaneous failure; it was a slow decrease in pressure to below about 10psi and then fluctuated back and forth between 2 and 8psi. No other indication that might indicate a loss of oil pressure, but I was in a bad spot over planet Earth to gamble.

Luckily I left the original mechanical oil pressure gauge in the panel that indicated normal pressure, so I pressed on.

When I talked to my mechanic, his words were "...I seem to be replacing a lot of those oil pressure transducers...". I vowed to keep the old pressure gauge in the panel that had been working flawlessly since 1973.

I haven't any particular gripe against digital gauges other then I'm forced to stare at them at work. So wanted to avoid them somewhat when I'm at play, I'm on a "no magenta" mission.

So, all EI Digital engine instruments AND a digital engine monitor? Hey, it's YOUR airplane and your instrument array, so as long as you're happy, it's all good. And, that instrument panel looks REALLY nice to my eye.

Hope you're flying soon.

I have an idea about that.
What model engine monitor is that?

Re: Getting Closer

It’s an EDM350; very basic, will serve my needs well enough and permitted under an Canadian OM C of A

I thought that's what that was.
From what I've read about the EDM350, I like it.
"Experimental only", but I think I could install it in my certified airplane
IF I keep my certified primary gauges.
Something to investigate further when I decide to finally buy an engine monitor.
