Re: Go Around!!!!

Us guys flying around behind Prince Props are laughing our asses off, we don't see what all the fuss is about.

Seriously though, if you HAVE to have a prop strike, a lightweight composite prop mounted on a Rotax gear box is about as benign as they can get. I've had two, and if it's caused any problem with the crank or the gear box they have yet to surface in 1600 hrs. Both were with the prop already winding down, with the ignition killed, one a snow bank the other the ubiquitous magnum sized Wyoming sage brush.

So THAT'S why my CFI beat into me 'first power, THEN gradually reduce flaps" on a go around.... I do prefer to learn through other people's experiences. Especially when it might be expensive or life threatening.

The photo shows the tips bent back. Why didn't they bend forward under power?

That makes perfect sense with the vid. I thought he was going awful fast. Bummer way to take your last lap in an Aerostar. I feel sorry for the old duffer.

Because the airplane is moving forward, so the tips bent back.

I'll have to think about that for a while. I saw a piper lance that did a go around when he forgot to put the gear down. He firewalled it just as the prop hit the runway. About 3 inches of the prop tips bent straight forward.
