Health Insurance

On another site there was a recent thread where several pilots said they had their health insurance cancelled just because they were pilots. One contacted AOPA who said that they were aware of it and were looking into the problem. Has anybody here had that experience yet?

Re: Health Insurance

Most standard insurance companies, for example State Farm, exclude from insurance flying activities. When I renewed my term policy last year I specifically chose Traver's Insurance where I insure my aircraft. They actively promoted life insurance for pilots. The term insurance was actually considerably less expensive than what I had been paying.

Life insurance, yes. Never heard of health insurance problems, myself.

Health Insurance

I found AOPA's group life to be the best 20 year term for me. Group coverage tends to have less pesky questions for underwriting. I have a couple other high risk activities that screwed me on the "normal" aviation policies.

I could see how a health insurer might see an advantage to excluding coverage for flying or canceling a pilot. Just never heard of it.

We buy life insurance because our loved ones need it, I made sure that the policy covers me as PIC so they are taken care of. The company will know if it's a plane crash.
