High Desert Fly-In 2012

Did you fly somewhere cool, take photos, and feel like telling the tale to make us drool from the confines of our offices? Post them up!

High Desert Fly-In 2012

I figure this fly-in needs its own dedicated photo and video thread so here it is. Thanks for putting this together Kevin! One of the best fly-ins I've been to. =D>

First plane to the fly-in 2 years in a row now! We got in friday night and had the place to ourselves.

Tieton couldn't have been happier

Image

We went to breakfast in Minden the next morning and when we came back there were already several planes on the ground.

No fly-in is complete without a flame thrower, so Lowrider brought it in the 206

At Three Wagons

The sand was pretty deep
Image

Mike landed down lower in the firm sand
Image

We had quite the selection of firearms to shoot

Kevin landed a new spot

Too bad this came out blurry

This is what's left of a pumpkin we threw out of the 170 at 1000agl

Desert sunrise
Image

This was a pretty gnarly spot for the 170, there's some big rocks in there
Image

I had a tailwind takeoff so I played it safe and left Stacey on the ground. I was going to have someone with more horsepower come in and pick her up. I was able to land at a smoother longer spot about a half a mile away to pick her up. We now call this spot Stacey's Ridge.

This is where I picked Stacey up again

On to the next stop, Wild Horses

It was fun making curved takeoffs around this bowl

Light sand good, dark sand bad... Good thing we had about 15 people to help push him out

Re: Three Shot Gun Shells and a Pair of Shoes 2012

Nice work Rob! Just home and looking at my pics as well.

You should change the thread name to "High Desert Fly-IN 2012"

Here is a great photo to keep some folks guessing for a bit... ...I think his new nick name is "MudFlaps"
Image

What a great time! 26 planes in total (maybe a couple more) and 17 over night... =D> =D> =D>

Thank you to all that came! My was a pleasure flying with you!

Awesome pictures! Wish I could of been there. I've logged 16hrs flying from California to Hawaii to Okinawa the past two days and got some good pics of Iwo Jima but it's just not the same as low and slow!

WOW!!! That was a blast! I think it was C170 Pete who said "That was the best fly-in since....forever."
Thanks to Kevin, his dad, and Lowrider for their hospitality and firewood!
Thanks to everyone else for putting up with our crazy dog.
It looks like we missed out on some great flying and stories today.
"Mud Flap" appears to be a magnet for adventures!!!
Can't wait for Gravelly Valley!

That was a lot of fun and it was great to meet everyone. Next time we need more Nevada residents as we were seriously outnumbered. Yes Joe, Russ, Andy, Hal, Jay, and Gump that is meant for you!

Re: High Desert Fly-In 2012

We flew in Sat. morning early and met up with Mark and Brian in the cool Maule, from Visalia. About 12 other planes proceeded to drop in as we enjoyed the gorgeous morning weather. A great Fly-In site, and thanks for pioneering and hosting it, Kevin! Only a memorial for a dear old friend could have called us away, and we departed just before Kevin arrived. It sure looks like we missed a great campout/flyout. Let's do it again, soon!
Enjoying the photos, too!

This happened to a Maule on 8.50s I think Rob loaned his 31"BW to durangomaule. They jacked it up and flew it out. Bigger is better some times.
Image

By the way I definitely made the right decision not to come the wx has been horrible. Not what you want to fly in.

Cheers

Re: High Desert Fly-In 2012

When headed back to Truckee I passed the high peak looking over Carson and all the crows were up on the top of the peak , probably over 1000 of them.
