Will someone send these amphib guys a memo that it's a DRY lakebed! Seabee Warbird pilots Pete and Lien stepped out still wearing their life vests, from their splash in Tahoe before arriving!

Re: High Sierra Fly-In 2013 Photo Thread

Hi guys - Court Leve and I will be working on our pics today and tomorrow and we will post a link as soon as we get through all of them. I shot 172 GB worth of photos and video so there's a lot to go through! In the meantime if you are looking to get a hold of me about a specific photo, feel free to send me a PM through this forum or through my website http://grantkaye.com. Thanks, Grant

Most landings were great.... Others were just shitty.

Re: High Sierra Fly-In 2013 Photo Thread

Thanks to Kevin and to all that made this fly-in happen, it was CRAZY! Something wild and exciting going on at all times.

Pops found a new place to land across the stump patch. This was a fun spot with a curve and terraced with 3 foot drop offs in between.
Image

Don't tell Gary he can not land because his tires are to small.
Image

If you took the word "mine" out of this sign it would be appropriate for most of the places Kevin led us into.

Behind the sign.
Image

After some crazy luck not bending my plane at High Boy, I had no idea how I was going to get it back out.
My Davtron put the DA just over 10,000', and this strip was crazy short.
I walked down to the launch or crash point to see what was below, this shot is at that point looking back up the strip.

The launch point.

That looks a little sideways...with the left tire looking pretty overworked...I wonder what my landings look like in freeze frame?

My worst landing of the weekend and it is all caught on video and stills, luck me :D

So the story goes like this. Kevin says the bail out is up the hill, ok. Jeremy's engine quits on roll out in front of me so I abort.

Now I am the last or 2nd to last to land. So there is like 10 planes parked. All is well until I am committed. Then it sinks in I am at 9000 plus MSL, DA well above 10,000 MSL

Now bare in mind I am a sea level guy. The ground is going buy like 60MPH, but this isn't the part that freaked me out. All my buddies airplanes are in my bail out zone.

So my brian is SCREAMING DON'T HIT THE PLANES!!!! So I'm like fuck it, don't even think of finessing it, get it down and stopped. I think the pictures tell how well that worked out.

I think the guys said it was the shortest land of the group, something like 350' and I came way to close to putting it on it's nose.

There was a whole lot wrong with that one!!! But I flew it away, so I think that gets it in the great landing classification! Ya, right, who am I kidding.

That Maule spring gear takes a lot to make it flex, and those 29" Air Hawks will take a lickin. I don't recommend this type of air frame testing.

Cheers...Rob

Here are some iPhone pics.

Old mines don't scare us.

The Maules were abundant. Highroad shows us how to get er done at Gold Mine.
Image

M7flyer stirring up the dust.
Image

Every time we had a take off it went IFR for 5 minutes. Some got creative and took off like military, side by side. Got Dust??
Image

We had 3 Maules all with pilots named Rob. We also had 5 white/red Maules. So it got interesting when you made a call, white and red Maule.

Good times!

Simply amazing photographs and your event looks superbly organized.

To say that I am jealous would be a gross understatement!

Were there two separate camping areas, one for taildragger's and one for tri-gears?
