Ha ha, you beat me to it! I fly with two sleeping bags pretty much all year, (except for winter, then it's 3) one light and one medium weight, that gives me plenty of options to deal with whatever. Nothing worse then being too cold, unless it's too hot.

The clearing with the brush piles looks like the Forest Service is building a fuel break. The piles will be burned in the fall when wet weather arrives. The plastic in each pile is to keep a dry spot to light with a drip torch.

That wasn't even on my radar as an idea. I like it! There was tons of dead standing fuel prior to the creation of those piles, so that makes a lot of sense.

Re: How cold is Johnson Creek in June?

Are you editing these videos to position airplanes much closer than they really are?

So far I’ve watched two of your videos, and in both cases there are planes about to crash into each other just off camera. If I was the pilot of either one and was made to look like a fool, I’d be pissed. Especially if I were someone with Jeff’s reputation and experience.

If these were unedited clips, then I’ll delete this (and be quietly disappointed).

Edit: Pretty impressive, Rich. Looks perfect, and I’m pretty picky.

The first few times I watched it I though to myself I really need to reevaluate my risk management on landing skills. Even now, knowing it is Hollywood magic, I still get a bit creeped out watching it. It just looks so real.

I just felt bad that you spent the money on the early onset alzheimer's test since you were concerned you didn't remember things that way...

Experienced hunting outfitters will always make camp up the side of a hill a bit rather than at the otherwise perfect stream side campsite. The coldest air sinks to the lowest spot.

You don’t have much choice at Johnson Creek but that’s the main reason it is so much colder there than even another location a mile away.......it’s in a hole.

I’ve taken off here at cascade in shorts and a t shirt and froze my tookus at Johnson.

Not a very good photo, but it was 25 in the middle of June. I have only been too warm at night there one time, in August, but only for a few hours.
