Sometimes it's good to just take a break. Take a month off. Just do family stuff. Then see if the excitement comes back.

How does your family feel about it? Do they think you should hang it up?

I wish I could add much more to this thread but we haven't had any kids yet and there are many other guys here with way more experience that put it way better than I could.

But.

I just came into that age where I realize I'm not invincible. It took a while, as I'm 32, but here I am.

Kevin hit the nail on the head for the way I'm feeling about my big cross country through the wilderness in a new plane. Sure there are risks, but I've gotten the best training I can, armed myself with lots of preparation, and if I didn't feel nervous about something like this then THAT would be something to be nervous about!

But it's game time and I'm ready to go. Put me in, coach!

Re: I'm holdin on too tight, I've lost the edge

Hi Wee. I don't post much, but this subject is very close to my heart and I wanted to take the opportunity to share my thoughts. I've been blessed with three kids and a wife who are extremely supportive of flying. Most things in our life center around aviation. My kids are all hanger rats. We literally spend more time at the airport than home. The people we have come to know through aviation are the best I've ever met. Many are like family to us. My kids are living the life many dream of, and I believe we are giving them a childhood that is something rare and precious. I can't give my kids everything, but I'm so proud I can give them this. That being said, I understand the temptation to pull back. I hesitate to say this, but I think it's relevant. I was flying the tripacer that was involved in the accident at JC 2013. It left me really shaken up and I've had to take a real hard look at the value of our lifestyle. Our family has chosen to continue, but only because we love flying so much. My advice would be to talk to your family. Mine sure surprised me and it was a real eye opener to how import flying was to them.

Re: I'm holdin on too tight, I've lost the edge

wow, all really good points/ideas for sure....

Kevins is a lot like mine...although i dont jump, i am in deep snow all the time...
i am always taking new people/clients riding in the back-country and the risks up high with our new sleds are pretty huge...i have had customers super mad at me when i wont take them up high if they dont wear. beacons and avalanche air bags...but the whole time im helping them to have a blast and mitigate the risk as much as possible...

i wont even get into the ADV dual sport rides, but just let me say they are all in the dirt and usually involve new people, and 400-600 mile days in the idaho back country...

my spot goes everywhere with me....!

this may sound bad, but when i wrecked a perfectly good 182 about 10 years ago this september, totaling the plane... but no one had a scratch but me...my oldest daughter tracked me down mad/upset as heck...so...long story short, i had each of my daughters take out life insurance on me, which i pd for, knowing at least if it all goes sideways, they are all OK as far as finishing college and etc..gave me peace of mind too, as i dont see myself quitting flying/riding any time soon...some for sure call it selfish...maybe it is...!?

i really like corey's way of going about flying with his fam...the guy flys as a pro during the week, then loads everybody up and heads out for the wilds of idaho and such with all in tow...! how cool is that...!? all the while, managing the risk as tightly as he can. not to mention the fact he is in a CERTIFIED airplane, providing the best possible outcome should he have to put it down unplanned....say what u will and ive seen a lot of both in idaho, but the certified birds seem to stay together the best in a bad situation...so Whee, i say make your own decision based on your whole family and also on your gut feeling for yourself....fly on,...jo
