If you had a year, What would you do ?

If you had a year or 2 to live
What would you do ? Whats your dream trip ?
Would you fly into the short gravel strips without worry of dinging a prop?
Would you buy a catamaran and sail around your favorite southern spots?

So a guy at the bar said some things he regrets, fell off his stool, crawled home at returned the next night. The barmaid said, have anything to say for yourself ? Yea since I found out I'm dying,
I decided to do what I want. Oh sorry, How long do you have, DoNo, 10 / 20 maybe.....
After all we are all dying and limited in different degrees.
Which reminds me of my last Mexico vacation,
My Dr. said I either had a rare blood problem or Cancer one week before the trip.
But hey ! don't let that ruin your vacation !
3 weeks later I found out its nothing :?
happy day
and Merry Christmas

Re: If you had a year, What would you do ?

This is serious business. You have already thought about this, and I have discussed this same thing with a couple friends but their time was so short they never got their chance. Because of them I would count the time I had left among my blessings.
I would spend my time on those things and with those people I value most, but do it in a way that lessens the burden on those close to me. The movie Bucket List comes to mind.
For me, I have already done most of the things on the adventure trail that appeal to me. Since I am already planning those mountain flying adventures you mention I would just make sure that it gets done and the farm doesn't get in the way. I got an offer last July at Oshkosh from an Edmonton Alberta couple I camped by, for my wife and I to fly alongside them to Alaska next summer. We plan on doing it anyway and I'm making the changes to my plane this winter to get it ready.

I'd quit worrying about public embarrassment and post some home grown music videos. CU, those were good.
I'd rent the farm out now so the kids don't have to later. We taught them to follow their own dream. I'd take the money I have left, borrow more, double the insurance, and do the rest of those things I want and go see the people I haven't seen in years. I'd do it all with my plane if possible. I'd let everyone here think I was in the chips and retiring and they would be none the wiser. That way I could meet my old friends on the same terms as I knew them. I'd try to live like old times when we were young and there was no tomorrow and everyone here would be wishing they were me.

I'd like to know how it changed your life.

That's very good, your brave
I lost a couple friends that didn't have much of a family.
And they didn't know how much they meant to a few of us.

Good question winger. I thought about it this past day and decided that I wasn't mature enough to answer it. #-o

I would try hard to land the caretakers job at Johnson creek, fly daily before my work schedule started, bust my ass choppin firewood, mowing grass, whatever it took to maintain a perfect setting for all the pilots flying in. Meet the greatest people in the world as they come and go. When my time is up just sprinkle a liitle 100LL on me as I love the smell of high octane stuff and toss back a few stiff cocktails........ Life has been good to me. [-o< =P~

Hey Winger;

I am a regular visitor at Starbuck. Minn. for the July 4th Heritage Days Celebration. I am the Maule always camped next to the t-hangar. Have I met you there?..

My last year would be to spend May to September At Starbuck with a lot of my friends there, then winter somewhere warmer. Sorry, don't have skis or floats for the Maule.

Re: If you had a year, What would you do ?

Loop the Golden Gate Bridge a few times on my way to Hawaii (just to tweek my fed friends) . . . with no ferry tank. On second thought, not such a good idea to waste a perfectly good airplane. Looping the bridge during rush hour still sounds like fun though and a great item for the bucket list :)

I've had several friends who were or are in that position. For the most part, they carry on with much more determination and gumption than I think I could muster. In all cases they started out with a real lust for and enjoyment of life, and that didn't change. It is a shame that bad things seem to happen to good people, rather than those who truly deserve it.

There was a country-n-western song a few years ago called "Live Like You Were Dying" by Tim McGraw about this sort of thing. Good lyrics- google it up.

Re: If you had a year, What would you do ?

I don't really want to think about that. From what I have seen, when people find out they don't have much time, they are already too sick to do much else. What I will say is, that there have been several moments in my life where I was doing something that could kill me if I made one small error, and at that moment I realized if I died right then, I would have died doing something that I loved, and that I put a lot of effort into being able to do, and it would of made a hell of an obituary.

Re: If you had a year, What would you do ?

Its not a fair question

First of all if were not in that position then it is pure speculation

Second if your in that position then you shouldn't give a rats ass what others would do. Its your decision and you shouldn't take any more outside input.

Re: If you had a year, What would you do ?

Just keep on doing what I am doing right now...most of us really don't know just how long our string is..so plan what you can, don't sweat what you can't, make peace with yourself, and keep on with life as best you can. If you have a bucket list..so be it..it gives you something to live for. As for me my bucket list keeps changing..sometimes I don't know what I want until I'm exposed to something new.
Maybe I have a year left, maybe I don't..this morning I'm going to go take a shower, eat some breakfast, and get along with the rest of the day...can't go flying because it's gonna snow..DAMN the wx anyway!!
Went flying this evening..life is good!!

Always curious about parachuting, but figured why speed up the death process, so I never have. Always said I would, if I found out I was terminal with something. Now the new body suits look kind of cool, flying close in to the face of those tall cliffs and mountain sides looks fun.
But after pondering the question a little more, I think I would like to attend a televised snootie event and kick Nancy Polocie in the balls so the rest of the world could enjoy it.

Tom Weiss perished in a mid-air collision October 12, 2014. He was an enthusiastic and beloved contributor here for close to 10 years, and he will be missed greatly.

Re: If you had a year, What would you do ?

For me the very most important thing is having a personal relationship with Jesus. Because of the price he paid on the cross in our place I have no doubt that when my body dies I will go to be with him. I sure do love life here though, and I'm in no hurry for that day. I would want to spend my time with my family and friends and go places and see things I haven't yet been able to.

I'm thankful for each and every day I am blessed with! [-o<

I'll 2nd what Steve said and.

I would pretty much keep doing what I am doing and would try to be a nicer person. I am not as nice as I would like to be.
(It is not my fault, I am a victim of the vast left wing conspiracy)

After 29 plus in the fire service I can tell y'all, do whatever today. Life is fragile and any of us can be gone in the twinkling of an eye.

Cheers
