Indeed. And somehow I don't seem to be reaping the normal rewards of wisdom or wealth. Going backwards, actually.

I did just add a link to view a user's posts though. Baby steps.

All the cool kids wear a monocle.

No readers for me yet, but this might be the last year. Getting old is not for wimps, but it still beats being surrounded by fertile women...that was arduous. Damn biological conspiracy is what it is.

I am closer to 50 than 40 now, and really appreciate lots of light. Still holding off on the cheaters, but it is coming....

God put me here to accomplish a certain amount of things...right now I'm so far behind, I'll never die!!

Re: In my 40s now...had to increase text size

FAA has the strictest visual acuity standards. Each eye 20/20, plus testing at reading and intermediate distance. Canada is 20/30, EASA is 20/30 each eye, 20/20 for both together. More risk of midair’s here I guess. I had a pair of “medical only” glasses made up, with a single lens with a .5 correction. Sheesh.

Yep, sitting here laughing my ass off. Oh, to be only 40 again. Heck that was 20 years ago! Now my memory is fading so I don't even remember what it was like to be 40!!

You're late to the party. You have a lot to look forward to. Readers are a simple fix. Wait for the cataract surgery, the joint replacements and regular trips to the dermatologist for skin cancer surgery. Although you may be young enough that your folks actually put sunscreen on you as a child. In the 1950s, spring break with the grandparents in Florida was time for my annual skin roasting. I'd peel for weeks after school started up again. Now I'm dealing with a special issuance medical because of an arthritic condition I've had for more than 20 years and had disclosed to the FAA all along. It suddenly became a concern to them a year ago. Yeah, 40s are easy-peasy!

Re: In my 40s now...had to increase text size

Tri-focals...my Harley rider buddy calls them cokesucker glasses. Make what you want with that description. He sees me fumbling around working on my plane trying to look up or staring at the ground so I don't trip. I enjoyed 20/15 vision until my employer gave me a PC at work in the '80's and told me to use it. Eyesight went downhill from there. Then a chainsaw threw a stick in one eye and detached a retina. I recovered with some astigmatism in that eye.

The '40's were a breeze but eventually things shrink and get fuzzy.

Re: In my 40s now...had to increase text size

With glasses, you get new things to keep track of and to lose. I used to buy a half dozen readers in whatever strength I needed and sprinkle them around so I'd never be without. That worked most of the time. I didn't enjoy flying with them perched down on my nose much. Eventually, I had to go to progressives. That meant two pair of glasses--clear and dark. Maybe it is aging, or maybe it's the additional pounds of crap that keep getting added to my bag (not literally, at least not yet), but I began having trouble keeping track of all of my stuff. This pushed me over the edge to having to carry a little bag-O-$hit: wallet, work badge, keys, pocket knife, phone and whatever pair of glasses I wasn't wearing. That bag is kind of a pain, but it's better than losing stuff one at a time. Of course, there was the time that I left the whole damn bag in the airport car and flew home 45 minutes Sunday night before I discovered that I didn't have it. I got an extra 1.5 that evening, retrieving it. At 13 gph, that cost me about 80 bucks. But at least I was flying. Welcome to the club.

I think I'll be needing some cheaters soon, but I'm waiting for Bigrenna to tell me which ones are lightest.

Re: In my 40s now...had to increase text size

Some words of wisdom (maybe) from someone MUCH older than 40:
Growing old is not for sissies.
Age is largely a state of mind.
You can still do everything you could do at a younger age; it just takes twice as long. You either do it at the same speed and take the other half to recover, or you do it more slowly and spread it out.
    Don't trust a fart.
