Javelin Aux Fuel Tank
Nothing happens without it. Discuss fuel locations, quality, alternatives, and anything else related to this critical resource.
I was gifted a Javelin Fuel tank...friend passed away...he had a ‘57 182 and I have a ‘56..All I have is the tank with an old fuel quantity sensor installed...all the outlets are capped off so I assume it’s clean inside...no dents just scratches....Javelin factory label is intact....here’s the question...when I look at the parts Manuel this looks like a challenging install...lots of bits and pieces I don’t have...interestingly my plane must have had one at some point or was pre plumbed for this as the outside filler is plated off and there is a line running in the right side wall that T’s into the tank outlet...so the question is how big a project will be sourcing the components and any recommendations on who could help with the install...beyond my competence level by several steps...hope there are a few BCP’ers who might have done this recently....while the extra gas would be great to have the logical side of me says to weigh the need vs task....thanks in advance.....

I have a Javelin and have often considered installing it in my 170, I have not as of yet and I don't expect I ever will. It's the loss of space and load in the baggage area is the show stopper for me. After all the effort to install both a baggage door and extended baggage area the Javelin tank seems a bit counterintuitive now.

I bought my 55 180 with the Javelin aux tank installed and I love it. Nice to have an extra 16 gallons onboard. Just remember to run on the side your not pumping into. It takes 42 min on my bird to push the aux fuel to the right wing. So I run an hr to 1.5 hrs on the right and then switch to left and start the aux up. I have a xp470 from Lycon now and the extra fuel is needed. I am installing monarch LR tanks in the spring. I may take it out then but I haven't decided. I like the extra weight back there with the big motor and voyager prop out front. Bird flies normal and not nose heavy. Even in the backcountry I may run light on mains but aux is always full. The only thing I don't like is filling it as you have to add fuel slow to get it to not spill out.

The Griggs Aircraft tanks are the old O&N tanks, not Javelin but similar. Lots of information on the Cessna 170 Association forum.

Thanks for the counsel on the AuxTank Question.....I’ll make a few calls but I suspect I’ll pass and accept that the Old Girl has limited range ....so on longer trips I will have a few more Cycles...Denny I will send a private message to you....

Sorry for the false alarm, my partners in the 180 want to stay with a flat floor in the back for sleeping in the plane so no tank for me.

I was introduced to the Turtle Pac aux or ferry tanks by a friend....and one have experience with these...? I do two long reposition filets a year ...last week it was ten hours and four fuel stops...I’m,Ike the idea of using it when required then being able to remove it....and no serious aircraft mods....appears to have all the FAA approvals...
Thoughts appreciated ...
