Kern Valley "L05" CLOSED for repaving, 19-Sep to 12-Oct

As of Wednesday September 19th 2012 Kern Valley Airport will be “CLOSED” for repaving. It was a long effort but things are now happening fast. Granite Construction has already dropped off the heavy equipment to get things rolling. The job will take between two to three weeks, so you’ll have to live without any 10-oz fly-in hamburger for a while. But, if you want to drive in, we'll still be here.

Progress reports and photos to follow. :D

Really rather wish you would have them tearout all that asphalt make it into a grass strip :D

I tried to get them, the county, to consider a grass strip next to the paved strip and no go. :( But I’m not giving up. :D

Three weeks? Are they tearing the old one out or just overlaying?

They are puting an Overlay on the Runway and on the Taxie Ways. The Parking Ramps are getting a sealer to stop the rocks from coming up.

We are one-third of the way there. As of 9-22-12 the main runway 17-35 is repaved with a new 3.5 inches of new asphalt. Now the taxie ways get repaved with 2.5 inches of new asphalt. Then they will reseal everything that's left and finaly paint strips. I flew over today to take thies pictures. I had to take my plane home as I didn't want it to get land-locked for three weeks. Besides it likes dirt fields better.

Looking to the north, You can see the new pavement on the runway and the camp ground tie-down area. You can see the crew working on the taxie way and it should be done in by tuesday.

Another angle as you look south-east.
