Whenever I plan to park in softer ground, such as at OSH, I have a couple of plywood pieces that I take for the mains. Makes it a lot easier after the airplane's been sitting for a week, gradually sinking in. I also have a small come-along that fits under the seat, in case there's no one around to help get the airplane out--although I can't imagine how to get this one out--can we have the rest of the story?

All was fine when he landed but as he taxied to take off again things got a bit soft. It was hard to just walk near the plane as you would sink to mid calf. Trying to lift or push pretty much sunk you to your knees. The group of us got as much dead wood and branches as we could find from the river bank for under the wheels and to stand on. For the better part of an hour we pushed, pulled, and lifted the plane until we got it to a spot the it would roll under power. He was then able to take off without further incident. A quick skim on the river and most of the mud was gone. The rest of us however were covered in mud to our knees. Made for a long smelly flight home and a lot of clean-up.

A 182 with 8.50 x 6 tires can handle some pretty nasty surfaces, especially if you keep some weight in the back. If a guy isn't dead-set on ski-flying, a 182 is a sweet bush machine.
