Anyone flying a MOAC?
Have been looking at building a Backcountry Rev3 or CC EX3 w/modified wings, but the Legend MOAC has some great features. The Legend Cubs in general seem to be respected (but underrepresented?) birds.
As a first time builder, there is appeal to the well vetted Carbon Cub kit.

No, but I have flown a Legend AL-3, and found it to be an exceptional airplane. I would not hesitate to go that direction if you want something besides the cookie cutter Carbon Cub. I do think that the Backcountry Cub2 and the CC are in different classes, I suspect the MOAC to be closer to the Carbon Cub, but somewhere in between.

I looked at the Legend very extensively. Visited the factory and if the funds allowed, I would have one. Personally, I think the Legend is a little better build that the CC. I have nothing to base this on other than having looked at both brands quite a bit. Also, Darin Hart (Owner of Legend) is a heck of a guy, and a very down to earth type. I didn't get the same type of feelings when talking with the CC gang.
Ask the Legend factory to put on an option or something you want modded, they will do their best to accommodate your dream.
I've got no experience with the Back Country line other than looking at them and liking what I saw. I have not heard anything bad about them.
If money is no object, get which ever suits you. I would check on insurance for either brand also. When I checked, the CC insurance was considerably higher. I sure hear of quite of few CC getting buggered up and I suspect this has a lot to do with their high insurance premium.
Good Luck and keep up posted.

I flew a pipeline by Sulphur Springs and stopped in quite a bit. I found them to be very friendly. Knowing what a pipeline pilot made I don't expect they had any hopes of selling me a Cub. Their Cubs seemed as nearly identical as the old Pipers I had flown.

Edging closer to a build. Anyone have anything to add about the MOAC Cubs?

I have flown a MOAC here in Australia (local Dealers one) and I have watched and scored it at at OzSTOL (Australia's STOL comp). It flies like a Super Cub, lands like a Super Cub and handles like a Super Cub with no vices. Without any trouble I was landing and getting off in around 100ft. With more time in the aeroplane, I reckon 60-70ft would be easily doable, this being the distance it was getting at the OzSTOL events. This is obviously not at gross.
As for build strength, Carbon Concepts very much have lightened the Cub frame whilst retaining strength in the right places according to their marketing literature. I have flown both a Carbon Cub SS and EX and can say they do feel more nimble and lighter than a Super Cub and thus the MOAC. Legend Aircraft on the other hand have a widened Super Cub frame and have all of the "Alaska Mods" pretty much as standard, so it is a more substantial frame and it feels that way.
They are both fairly comparable in price, the legend maybe a couple of ten thousand dollars cheaper for the equivalent. As others have said legend will also mod the aircraft or add goodies (within reason) to cater for most of one's desires. I haven't met either the owners of Legend or Carbon Concepts, but the difference to me seems to be mainly in marketing. CC is very slick and well oiled marketing machine whereas Legend Aircraft couldn't market an ice-cream on a hot summers day in Florida. Doesn't mean their ice-creams are great!
Whilst they are comparable, they also seem to target two different dynamics as well. The CC "seems" to me to be for the guys who fly from big airports and get out every now and then to backcountry and off-airport stuff, whereas the legend aircraft pilot "seems" more at the guy whom lives off-airport? I could be wrong (and I usually am, very much especially with generalisations) but that is my personal impression. YMMV.
Cheers

If I could afford one, I'd have a bare bones stripped down and light Legend HP.

I can’t speak to building one from a kit but the factory build assist is what I did. Armando, Darin, Randi and team were excellent to deal with. The quality of the build is high, paint work and fabric are excellent. You have the option of customizing your build just about however you want so long as it is safe. Each one seems to be built tailored to the owners choice rather than CCs that all look the same less a unique panel (maybe) and paint color. Communication was great throughout and since bringing it home they have been responsive to a few questions I had. Overall great experience and the plane flies nice and reforms well. Just like any super cub with a big engine you will need some weight out back if you like a more centered CG but overall very happy with the end result and the experience with Legend. Their lead times are down now so if on the fence go ahead and pull the trigger, you wont be disappointed.
