Looking to buy a H/D Nose Fork for a 182

Have you modified your aircraft? STC? STOL Kit? Major rebuild from just a data plate?

Looking to buy a H/D Nose Fork for a 182

I'm looking to buy a heavy duty nose fork, including axel and 6-inch wheel to install on a C-182. One from a C-206, 310 etc... If you know of one for sale please PM me. Thanks.

While I'll agree the Landis is top drawer, you'll pay top drawer also . . . >$2K just for the STC'd kit - without tire/wheel, which add another $600-1000 to the project - and then the labor on top, unless you're an A&P . . . .

Google big tires site:backcountrypilot.org

You'll get a couple of days reading - I'm not halfway through yet. . . .

Re: Looking to buy a H/D Nose Fork for a 182

i just pulled off a cessna HD fork/strut from my 73 C182 and went with the Landis(they are $2600 now)i bought the cessna fork on the strut so it was just an easy exchange of the complete unit, the landis was a different story with the removal of the stock(non HD fork) from the strut and installing the landis block and strut.Without a hydraulic press its just about impossible and with one you better work quick to get the new block on the strut and the bolt hole alligned(like 2 seconds). I have 8:50X6's all around now but am waiting on the 29X11X10's to arrive...if i had to do it over again i would have stuck with (on paper) the 800 mains and the 600 nose

But your old fork sure looks good on my 182 now. I'm glad you decided to take the plunge for the Landis

I know your joking Tim but, that hard landing was one of my more humbling experiences in life. The 182 is a great plane. You still have the firewall problem. Hard landings are not forgiving in a 182. We all have had hard landings. This big fork stuff for the 182 is kinda funny now (knowing what I know now). The 182 is a superb plane but cannot even think about going anywhere that I really want to go. Its just to bad it has the attachment to the firewall. Beef up kit or not. Guys getting big 29x11 Air Hawks on them are just silly with the weight of them on that plane. What for really? 850's will do you just fine. Been there done that as have a lot of folks. The 182 engine mount to the firewall is a huge problem if you intend to fly in rough country or hope to not have a hard landing. We all know a lot of folks that have put that fork through the belly for that very reason. I hope it doesn't happen to any of you. Take my own learning lesson I had and learn from it, please, or it will cost you a lot.

That hard landing I had would of been ok in a cub, maule, skwagon, etc. Unfortunately, airplanes bend and the 182 is notorious of such. Its great for just flying and going to fun places, but smooth pavement and cut grass is really not my favorite. I like what Joe Dory's kid told him. "Cant say you been war without any war stories". That hard landing a few years back was a huge learning lesson for me on a lot of levels. Can really relate to the FED thread on here...Its also the big reason I needed to sell the ol 182. Hopefully I can keep the skywagon in one piece. She sure is a lot of fun and learning everyday what she can or cant do.

Geez, I've had the good fortune of banging around in my '56 182 all over the Idaho backcountry with my Skywagon buddies and have never had to decline to land where they landed or had any other problems with rough terrain. Maybe I'm just lucky, but the 8.50's on the mains and 8.00 on the nose have served me well in what I consider an outstanding all-around airplane.

Re: Looking to buy a H/D Nose Fork for a 182

"Bounced" (literally) around in mine for 12 years with my Skywagon buddies and thought it was the best plane ever. Hit most of the Idaho strips for 3 days prior to the Big Creek bender. Beefed up firewall and all. And then....splat...maybe it was the wear on it, I dont know, but...its still attached to the firewall...Unfortunately we cannot get around that. If your careful and all the 182 is great in and out of most places but I sound like a broken record...its only a matter of time as the bouncing continues.

Landis Fork is 14 lbs and the Cessna is 7. Might be something to consider.
