I have a son that will graduate Dec 7th 2013 with a degree in Mechanical and Electrical Engineering.

He has PPL, Member of SAE likes Aero space, and auto .

Tell him to contact one on the oil field service companies like Schlumberger. He can write his own ticket. With a double major like that he's a big money catch. If he's got the time and inclination to take on a masters in one of the disciplines he'll be worth even more.

The combination really opened doors early on in my career. It doesn't matter so much professionally later on.

The energy industry would vacuum up a young person like that in a heartbeat. One word of caution, though- the likes of Halliburton or (especially) Schlumberger are famous for completely burning out and spitting out good young engineers after 18 months or a few years. I'm sure he is probably well aware of this as well. I've witnessed this happen to people I studied with too many times to keep track of. Some of them left engineering completely after their experience there, and others simply had to re-discover what real life was like after leaving. But some did manage to save a little money while they were at it, and one person I know stuck with it long enough to have something resembling a well-to-do life finally now that he is 42. It all depends on priorities, I guess.

Just a small word of caution. I've been hearing that the Bakkans been slowing down and not much going on in Rifle. I'll get some more scoop this next week.

I don't do any loads to Texas or OK, so no idea what's happening down there.

But no matter what's going on, somebody with those credintials should find something with a big corporation, even if he has to move around a bit.
