Maule Backcountry Flying

It’s kind of tuff to find backcountry flying spots near NYC but we made the best of it anyway. It’s also hard to tell it’s the dead of winter and around 10 degrees with the lack of snow. Hope you enjoy watching it as much as we enjoyed shooting the footage.

Excellent video!
Great videoography, and good choice of accompanying music.

Thanks. North west of Port Jervis. We were really hoping for some snow to improve the dreary brown scenery. It’s been relatively warm until the day or two before the video. If you look closely at one of the lakes earlier in the video it’s skimmed over with ice. My daughter does all the video and editing. I think she’s got great taste in music for her films too.

Port Jervis is a nice area. I was not a pilot back when I lived in Joisey but I know that area well from my early motorcycling days, and also cruising the area in my 1978 Fiat. Did a lot of canoeing on the Delaware leaving out of Port Jervis. Nice memories!

I did a bunch of my seaplane training just north of Port Jervis on Swinging Bridge lake. Beautiful area.

Very Nice!

That is a pretty area. We fly down to the Allentown, PA area now and again and I usually fuel up at Orange CTY and then fly down the Delaware. Do you know what are the big obelisks are? I have flown over them and always wondered. C'mon up and visit sometime.

That was very nice. What camera is she using for that? Very crisp looking without any prop blur. Again, well done.

That is just excellent! Personally I like the cold scenery without the snow. Your plane looks good. Nice colors, and great how the VG's show up.

Looks like a great time Greg!! We need to meet up again soon, and start planning some fly/camp weekends as well as an RAF event for CT.

I find it admirable that even based near such a major metro area you still find a way to cut loose!

She is shooting with a Blackmagic URSA Mini Pro on a Movi Pro stabilized gimbal. It’s a serious camera rig with lots of dollars reinvested into her business. Drew we will definitely have to shoot some cool footage on our next RAF camping adventure. The brown scenery does blend pretty well with Rob’s paint scheme. If anyone else wants to grab some video footage we would love to meet up.

Are you referring to High Point NJ? Looks like the Washington Monument? I definitely want to visit and camp at your airport sometime this summer.

Yes, I wasn't sure of the town, it's just downstream from Port Jervis. There is another smaller one somewhere around there as well I have flown over. You (And any other BCP folks) are more than welcome anytime. We can hook you up with a vehicle as well.

Re: Maule Backcountry Flying

Pete that sounds awesome. I may try and get a few RAF guys to fly up and camp there at some point. We flew with CT_pilot/Drew today and got some footage of one of his club planes. Would love to do a whole fly in, camping, video shoot up there.

Dave, yes the value of her video equipment is getting closer to the value of the plane every week. It does make for some awesome footage though. We're looking forward to some warmer weather so we can get the doors off again for even better quality.
