MONDOVI WI LOG CABIN FLYIN PICTURES

Jack and I departed at 7am with frost on the windshield for a 210 mile flight to one of the most unique events I have ever attended. Doug Ward, a ball turret gunner in a B-17 and aviation enthusiast has built a piece of "Heaven on Earth". 2 runways and log buildings/hangers with a musuem atmosphere. There was even a trout stream running through the property. Lots of pics but I had a hard time weeding them out. 2 movies at end with Deano taking off in one.

Excellent photos. Thats what I like to see more of. A fly in and cook out with other flying friends. Is this a yearly event? Where is it located? Thanks again for the great photos... Ken in Alaska Stinson flyer

Re: MONDOVI WI LOG CABIN FLYIN PICTURES

Ken,
Yes it is a yearly Fly-in. The gent also has a skiplane fly-in during the winter.
It is at a strip in the countryside near Mondovi, Wisconsin. I flew alongside Scout on the flight down there...actually I was tail-end charlie as I am the one in the Champ. I had a great time and will have to say it had to be the largest turnout of any fly-in I have ever flown into. If you ever get down this way Iet me know.

Those photos are excellent. I would love to have a cabin setup on a strip like that. The outfit of the owner is pretty tight too.

Blessed are the curious, for they shall have great adventures!

Re: MONDOVI WI LOG CABIN FLYIN PICTURES

Sad to say I won't be able to make it this year. My wife took a job back in the DC area so I will be driving her back there and getting settled in. I will surely miss attending this fly-in.

Re: MONDOVI WI LOG CABIN FLYIN PICTURES

Steve,
Yes, I should get back to work on that thing one of these days. LOL I wasn't able to do a a lot on it the last couple of summers as I had a bad shoulder and finally got to the doctor and the shoulder had ripped out of the socket. Had surgery the winter of '09 and then recupped from that so I did get the fireplace in and a few other things done last summer. Haven't been around MN long enough this summer to even get started on much. Hopefully I will get something done in the month or two before I have to head back to the DC area also.
If you get down this way you know you are welcome to stop in.
