That is wonderful news, sounds like he got found pretty fast for not knowing where he was.

I agree on all points. Intact airplanes on sandbars are much easier to spot than airplanes in trees or water or ones that have burned.

Great news! This makes my day. Like Bob White says, every days a gift.

I hope it wasn't pilot error or Peter is going to get an ear full for making us worry so much.

I got my PLB. I hope you all do too.

Peter, we are all waiting to hear from you bro.

Damn

I must of flown over him and not even seen him. I'm sure he was happy to hear me comming, and bummed to see me keep going.

Makes me feel like an idiot now.

Sorry about that Pete.

If you want to go up, pull back on the controls. If you want to go down, pull back farther.

No need to feel like an idiot. I think feeling like a hero for being one of the few that went out looking for him would be more appropriate.

It just goes to show how hard it can be to spot an airplane from the air even in close to ideal conditions. In most of the wilderness accidents I am aware of search planes and helicopters passed overhead several times before the wreckage was spotted. Gary you are smart to carry your PLB with you when you fly.

I got mine from prepared pilot after Sparky went down. Maybe Peter's little episode will convince a few others to get plb'd...

If your going to go down (like anyone ever plans on it), please have a way to let people know where your at. It's no fun for us to not be able to harrass the b'jeepers out of you, once your safe. The sooner your picked up, the sooner we can get started. ;-)

Peter,

Hopefully your in good shape and able to be home to your family soon... The reports sound very encouraging.
As you can see, a lot of good people were / are very concerned.

Update

Had a message from Petar

He is on his way to Blanding. Spoke with his wife and she is on her way to pick him uo. I think(hope) a little quality time together might help.

I recommended talking about telling people where you are going, survival vest, with gear in it, and PLB.

He did see me this morning. Sorry I didn't see him. He could have been home telling a story by now. But the ride home with his wife may be more"beneficial"

He was departing and had engine problems, wasn't able to fly out, had a forced landing. Beat the plane up alittle, but no flip.

So GOOD TO HAVE HIM BACK< I'm sure he will bring everyone "up to speed" tomorrow.

Have a good evening, and a lesson learned Gary

Heck, we get dinged for the first one before it happens !

Guess it's all part of the prestige of flying a Maule... ;-)

Here, Here !!!

Sounds like a winner all the way around. Hopefully plane and pilot will both be airworthy again soon.

Congrats to Petar on a successful outcome to a forced landing !

Maybe a frontpage article for BCP to get everyone geared up for the up coming season ???

So very glad to read

I was so very glad to read of the positive outcome (yes! positive considering...) of this event. Let us all take this as a lesson to leave a flight plan of some kind for any cross country flight; and to consider a PLB.

Maule Missing

ABC News4 Utah just reported the airplane crashing at Nokai Dome, said the pilot was fine and little else. They did actually show a picture of an M7 Maule on the screen (white w/red stripes) when they reported the crash so I was happy to see some accuracy.

So happy this story has a good ending. May we all be so fortunate!

For those not familiar with the area and Nokai Dome it's pretty darn remote.
