I need to get some advice from my farmer neighbors, or from you all here, as to what I can do to my native grass strip to pump it up a bit. NOT looking for a lawn, just something that would encourage what is already there. .
Fertilizer is second on the list for what you need there. You live in a very arid region. Vegetation grows and builds slowly in that type of climate, and once damaged , takes a long time to repair. Hence the erosion from the landings. What You need is irrigation to build strong root structure. You don't need to water it like your trying to grow hay, just provide enough water to give it an improved sustained moist environment a little better than what it's getting now.
Without water, fertilizer is useless and can be toxic.
Also soil in arid areas can be high in PH and certain minerals due to the accumulation of chlorides, carbonates and boron. Irrigation can help leach these from the soil.
