New Member Learning to Fly in a Tri-Pacer

After enjoying the view from the right seat of my boyfriend’s Skylane for a few seasons and backcountry strips, I have decided to venture into the world of the left seat. Not one to go the conventional route in life, I decided to learn to fly in my own Piper Tri-Pacer. Having never flown in a “Flying Milk Stool”, I took the plunge and purchased one last month. Now I am on my way to learning to fly…

Eventually, I hope to join other backcountry pilots in camping adventures based out of my own plane. Until then, I invite you to follow along on my learning to fly adventure at www.flyingmulegirl.com.

Re: New Member Learning to Fly in a Tri-Pacer

Good for you on soloing... congratulations!

Have your mechanic or mechanic advisors keep a sharp eye on the lower door frame and lower longeron weld cluster on the Tri-Pacer, which is a well known trouble spot for corrosion to develop. The short wing Piper club folks know all about this and can keep you safe. Education and hands-on experience with your own airplane is the primary key to being a safer and more knowledgeable aircraft owner. There are some highly experienced people on short wing Pipers, on this forum and elsewhere. Figure out who is who, who knows what, and who to listen to as soon as you can.

Welcome to this strange and interesting place. This forum is the moment in your life where you walk into that bar in the first Star Wars movie with all the creatures.

Come on in and feel free to kick the boy pilots' asses !

Yesterday was my day to solo!
Congratulations! That's a day you'll never forget. It's been almost 41 years since I first soloed, at Fort Richardson, AK, and I can still remember the details as if it were only yesterday--warts and all. You'll have a lot more milestones on your way to your certificate--hang in there!
