Not a Thumper

No I'm not a thumper......don't even go to church much.....but I try to walk with God everyday and read the "Good Book"......

with all the negative post later everyone should just take a moment and read John 8: vs 7...... it is just plain good common sense for everyday.

Sorry if I have offened anyone with the word "God"..... it is hard to believe that you can be a pilot and see some of the things we as pilots in the air and in the "Back Country" and not believe............but to each his own

I thought you were leading us to something about 'the beauty and wonders of God and his creation' like Ecclesiastes 3:11.....

He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the hearts of men; yet they cannot fathom what God has done from beginning to end.

We as pilots and fly in campers get to experience some fantastic beauty and stirring delightful moments in the near solitude of what I consider to be his first and best 'book'-God's creation-the book of nature.

I find nature naturally refreshing...
I don't feel I have to be 'branded' by a Church to make it to heaven, what maters most is our relationship with our God and how we treat our fellow man.

Not a Thumper either....
lc

Afterthought: Reflecting on the above, could we claim 'Freedom of religion' & 'Nature is our Church' to keep our airstrips open? It really does make sense to me.... [-o<

Create your "church of back country aviation" and I'll help write your private/state/federal grant funding proposals for ya!

Re: Not a Thumper

Flap,
It is probably just my naivete speaking, but funding isn't what I envision-AIRSTRIPS & ACCESS are...*I'm entering a VISION now, as I type*......
......To facilitate the two activities (flying & camping in pristine primitive BC) that, combined, provide deep spiritual replenishment. Nourishment for the soul. Refreshment of our relationship to the Great Spirit. The Blessings endowed by communing with "The Creator of All that IS".......*The vision is fading now*
Well, you get the Idea. My Spiritual requirements dictate that I enter into 'My Cathedral of NATURE' -several time a year for 'Overnight Enlightenment'......

Flap, can you expound on that kind of stuff? Nothing requires that a religion has to be ancient to be real. This is 'New Light' that we (BCP'ers), the high Priests, or Imams (gets more leverage these days) -if you will-need/MUST enter these sacred areas to appease the Gods and seek their guidance to 'save the world'.....

Tis a 'Higher Calling', Flap....
lc

Nobody needs to make comments about my flying skills-and how they always take me very close to 'Seeing God'...

No one has commented yet-so I get a 'free edit' if I hurry...... :D
When your writing the 'Access'...... 'Grant'..... Your Holiness EZ Flap,
Work in something about Humor for the the many of us who worship at that alter-
oh, and 'Whiskey' for OregonMaule and his adherents....
Of course Zane would be the High Priest....ah, er, Supreme Holy Caliph.

I'm a thumper. Certified and proud of it. Here's one that is particularly meaningful today:

I think of Romans 1:20 each and every time I go flying.

Romans 1:20 NLT
For ever since the world was created, people have seen the earth and sky. Through everything God made, they can clearly see his invisible qualities--his eternal power and divine nature. So they have no excuse for not knowing God.

Expound? Me? The timing on that comment is perfect... I can hear thunderous laughter all the way from Minnesota right about now.

Well that really settles it... they're throwing a rope over a tree branch at Johnson Creek in my honor.

On the chance that any of this could actually happen to benefit the airstrips, the access and legal issues are actually what the "grant funding" would be for. In order to have attorneys and lobbyists and PR and advertising (which is what protects the airstrips and influences public opinion in favor of keeping them)...... all that eats up a lot of money. That's one subject. But I have already been in contact with someone at RAF I believe, to offer services along those lines.

Another subject is the church thing you're joking about. But considering how wacky and ridiculous some of the "out there" churches are, a flying-based church is not any further out of the realm of possibility. What you might do is position this particular church as being different than MAF or any of the missionary pilot organizations. Their mission is to use airplanes as the "vehicle" to spread an existing Brand X gospel around the world. Your deal could be that aviation learning and aviation-related spirituality is itself the gospel which your newfangled church is spreading, and remote back country airstrips are the "vehicle" or "medium" through which this gospel is spread most effectively. And that those remote strips are where you-know-who hangs out and delivers stone tablets.

If Elvis can make surprise appearances at Wal-Marts and Burger Kings, then the Big Longeron can hang out at some little gravel bar where only bushplanes can go to get an audience.

It is a relatively straightforward sales job for someone in my profession, to sit down with a newly established charitable foundation and figure out the best way (and best chance of success) to present it, sell it, and convince the public it's legit and worthwhile.

Accept my apologies if the above sounds mercenary to any of the religious believers and thumpers. My feelings on that subject are not relevant to this particular discussion.

Half joking, Flap.
Back country camping really DOES recharge my batteries and is a religious experience. The problem I see is that any/all religions are pretty close to ruined by the 'organization' meant to spread them. Shortly it becomes not about the subtle 'experience'-but about 'the organization'. ( I expect there might be exceptions....I haven't seen them)

It probably just entertained the two of us, Flap, but thanks for kinda humoring my little charade.....

A friend has been playing racquetball with a small group every Sunday morning for close to 40 years. They even have T shirts. It's called "The Church of the Holy Rollout".

Good thoughts here, thanks all for sharing.

The Book of James is a powerful one for me. I try and read it often. Advice on things like controlling my tongue, listening instead of speaking, faith and doing good for others, the power of prayer etc.

And I ride a thumper also.......

Not a Thumper

I hope you guys keep this thread going, seems to me y'all are on to something. Every religious group around gets to claim their own "law of the land", and the rest of us have to abide.

My grandad always told me that he "Prayed more on the back of a horse than in church", and he was in church every time the doors opened.
