Oshkosh 2010

Anyone going to Oshkosh this year? Flying? Camping? Which days? Get together for lunch or dinner?

I'm planning on flying in, camping in the North 40, all week.

I'll be there standing in front of a little black aircraft from work, love to chat with any other BCPers there. No idea where we'll be parked, PM me for a vector if you want to link up.

I'll be there too, in the A display building. As always, glad to meet any BCP'ers and put a face to a name (or even a screen name).

I'll be there (here) all week during convention. I'm usually somewhere in the workshops area. Stop by the Builders Education Center and say "hi". If I'm not right there, they'll know where I am.

Howdy....................

Last year a group of Backcountry Pilots met at the Hilton on Tuesday for lunch (Rob Burson arranged it). We all enjoyed the lunch and the hangar flying. Dianne & I will be at The Oshkosh EAA AirVenture Monday through Thursday and would enjoy meeting the group at the Hilton (North side of field) on Tuesday (July 27th) about 11:30 AM for lunch. Any interest??

Re: Oshkosh 2010

Tuesday lunch sounds good to me. I missed it last year because of weather delays, hopefully I'll make it on time this year.

If your not living on the edge, you're taking up too much space.

Re: Oshkosh 2010

Good Day All,

Heading to Oshkosh this year as well. We are flying in from Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. I was planning on overnighting less than 100 miles out from Oshkosh for the first night in order to make an early morning arrival on our first day of attendance; the Tuesday or the Wedsday. Does anyone have any good suggestions for landing spots/FBO's for the first night outside. It could be camping or a hotel. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Cheers

Re: Oshkosh 2010

I was just thinking...........I know it's a little ways to the southeast of Oshkosh (just over an hour drive each way: http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&tab=wl). But Elkhart Lake, WI is a really cool town to stay in.

Airport info: http://airnav.com/airport/KSBM or http://airnav.com/airport/8D1. I'm not sure about rental car/courtesy car availability.

The two hotels that I know of:
The Ostoff Resort http://www.osthoff.com/

Siebkens Resort http://www.siebkens.com/. Siebkens has great food and a great bar next door.

More hotels in Plymouth.

Two more great places to eat in Elkhart Lake:
The Paddock Club http://www.paddockclubelkhartlake.com/. The Hangar Steak is the bomb here!!

Lake Street Cafe http://www.lakestreetcafe.com/.

Another bar with great food (one of the best burgers I've ever had). The Brown Baer at 181 East Rhine Street Elkhart Lake, WI (920) 876-3319

Again, I know it's out of the way for most, but it may be well worth it to some.

Hi all, On Saturday I will overnight at C35 (Reedsburg WI) and will arrive OSH early Sunday. I will be camping in North 40 until Wednesday am. Look for the plane in my avatar, red/white Husky. Look for the guy in the shorts, with the ball cap and sneakers...

Re: Oshkosh 2010

Well is it official Tuesday we'll all do lunch? What time do we want to do lunch and what place should we meet? I haven't been to Oshkosh but I think a good place might be on the north side of the control tower at 1200. Just a thought to get the process moving! Food idea's would be great!

Re: Oshkosh 2010

I'll be there all week too. Where ever the meeting place is please have a poster board or piece of cardboard or something so those of us lurkers who don't "know" anyone here can find the group.

Re: Oshkosh 2010

Let's meet at the Hilton at 11:30am Tuesday. Where in the Hilton - any suggestions? Flags or signs might be helpful to identify each other, as this might be the first time some of us have actually seen each other in person.

I'll be in the North 40 all week. Look for a red & white Supercub with a cargo pod & 850s, and a yellow teepee pitched next to it.

Looking forward to meeting y'all!

Anne.

Howdy........................

Posted the following a Oshkosh lunch suggestion couple of weeks ago. Sounds like we have several BACKCOUNTRY ENTHUSIAST interested in a get-to-know-you lunch. Tuesday (July 27th) would be a great day and Dianne & I can arrive at the Hilton (North side of the field, and I believe there is bus service on the AirVenture field for transportation to the Hilton) a little early to instruct Hilton personnel where to direct the BACKCOUNTRY group. We will try to have a BALLOON or a BACKCOUNTRY shirt flying at the table. Weather permitting, the upper outside restaurant (at the back of the Hilton) has a super view of the AirVenture North 40. I'll arrange with the Hilton to have 15-20 chairs at the table (we can always add to them if necessary)

See you all on the 27th at Oshkosh.

Jim
