Our First Family Adventure on Floats

Just got back from SE AK. Had outstanding weather. Trip report to follow when I get caught up with things; which should be sometime before the New Year?

Definitely unfair to post a pic like that and then not follow up right away. For shame! :)

Re: Just got back from SE AK. Had outstanding weather. Trip

The story starts with getting our float kit equipped 180 ready for its first time on the water. Small but competent helpers can make the job much quicker.

Since our bird already had plugged holes where the rear attach blocks go, I incorrectly assumed it would just be a matter of bolting them on. Only 2 holes are drilled at the factory, the EDO fittings have 4. The forward bolts are difficult to get at from inside, thus my helper did most of the work.

With everything set up, most of the swap went very smooth.

Re: Our First Family Adventure on Floats

Intended to write up a nice TR, but worry that it will be forever in the making. Wife made up a photo gallery which at least gives a taste of the trip. Once she does this it's just too easy to be lazy. New member of the family did great with the trip and may have attracted a disproportionate amount of lens time. She was 3 1/2 months when we left and there was some discussion we wouldn't all be coming back by plane if she continued to grow so fast.
Going through the back log of mail yesterday and lo and behold, there is a great write up on float flying in Canada by Chuck Jarecki from the RAF. His trip is more of the inland areas of B.C and Yukon, while we took the Inside Passage route up and back. As always, I hope the pictorial journey might inspire some to gather themselves and head North.

Matt,

Good pictures and great looking family! The pup looks like a good one too! Labs are great companions. The more I look at all these recent float plane trip reports and videos the more I want to do it!

What an awesome trip. Great family time, flying, fishing, and relaxation. I've been wanting to do one like it with my grandchildren when they're a bit older. Congrats!

Wow, Matt - what an incredible trip!

I noticed you guys stayed in a lot of cabins. How did you research the places you ended up staying? I would love to see a list of the places you stopped. The pictures are amazing!
