P206 Rear Door
Technical and practical discussion about specific aircraft types such as Cessna 180, Maule M7, et al. Please read and search carefully before posting, as many popular topics have already been discussed.
I saw the rear door on the C205 restoration thread is far larger than I assumed it was.
Is the P206 rear door the same size?
More importantly, is the rear door on the P206 or 205 blocked at all when the flaps are down?

Yes they are the same as the 205. No they are not blocked at all with the flaps down.

Thanks. Any idea how many P206s have the seaplane kit?
I heard good U206s with the seaplane kit are difficult to find. Transport Canada has threatened to release an AD if Cessna does not improve the cargo doors of the U206 following a crash in the north a couple years ago. Just got to thinking a P206 would work really well for flight-seeing and would still be a little easier to load than a 185 while providing better egress options than a U206 with five or six people.

No I'm not sure how many P models have the float kit installed. Saw a decent looking one of FB for sale the other day that was float kit equipped. Yes it is going to be interesting to see what shakes out here with TC and the U206.

Raise flaps after crash[emoji3]
I had an early 206 with the cargo doors. While nice, it’s also stupid. My passengers were consistent (family) and we drilled how to get them open using the method Dogpilot described. I’ve been a passenger in a lot of them with the air taxis. Egress with the flaps down is never addressed. I can understand why Transport Canada has a few things to say in terms of passenger safety.

Door pins for a jettisonable door would probably be the easiest. I have heard some Beaver operators have considered going that way. The irony is TC originally required ex-US Army Beavers with jettisonable doors be converted to the standard doors before getting a civil C of A way back when...full circle.
I daresay a mod for all single piston Cessnas for the front doors would also be handy (but unless mandatory probably not universally adopted). In this accident the door never got opened, they went out the window, and I have heard of that happened before as well whether the fuselage crushed and the door was jammed or someone was disoriented and pulled the handle the wrong way until it broke off.
The operator in question has decided to go the no-206s on floats route which got me wondering about the P206. Given they used to do a fair number of flight-seeing tours up the Nahanni (ie minimal cargo), a P206 seems like a good fit given you can still get two couples in with better egress options than a 185.

If you could find Found Bush Hawk, wouldn’t that be a solution? Been a while since I looked at photos, but I believe they have four doors.

The release system that Dogpilot referred worked well on the Birddog, now I'm wondering if it might be a worthwhile mod to my 170
