That plane was flown like someone rated SEL not MEL.

Years ago Don C. told me, Hey Finch we can fly that twin, you take that engine on the left and I'll take the one on the right.


Don: I was glad you weren't with me the night the critical engine died on take-off. Your side would be fine, my side into the rocks.

That's a benefit to flying a single--if the engine quits, we KNOW we're going to land. If the engine in a twin quits, sometimes landing is the only alternative, and sometimes the airplane can be safely flown on to an airport for a safe landing, and the line between the two is not always clear. The mark of good judgment is in deciding which it is today, under all the circumstances presented now. Obviously, that judgment call is too difficult for some folks, and invariably the result is fatal.
