Rezrider's going to fly south, an aerial expedition.

Did you fly somewhere cool, take photos, and feel like telling the tale to make us drool from the confines of our offices? Post them up!

Thanks, that ought to be good for a few "likes". Pretty sure I could handle the actual flying but I'd have huge butterflies thinking about mechanical and bureaucracy problems. Really admire people like you!!!!

We have had a few dogs come through the plane by this stage. The funny thing is, the drug inspections are when we are leaving the country and not upon entering! I guess they figure that we aren't interested in bringing contraband into a country, only in taking it out.
The dogs seem pretty bored and disinterested so we usually end up playing with them for a bit and chatting to the police guys. This is in Ecuador.

Jumping ahead to Chile now, I don't have anything easily accessable for Colombia and Peru, here we are parked at San Pedro de Atacama. The strip is at 8,000 ft and the peak in the background to the left is over 16,000 feet. The wind was howling and we ghetto camped at the airport. Nobody bothered us. The stars were amazing that night.

More Atacama desert, the colors are amazing out there.

Ok, last batch.

We stumbled upon this strip in the Elqui valley which turned out to be private. We eventually got permission to be there and everything was fine. I screwed up on the etiquette front and prop washed the rose bushes on departure taxi. The plumes of brightly colored rose petals blowing across the ramp was quite a sight!

Our tracker line is starting to grow. At last count we were at about 6,000 NM flown.

Merry Christmas to all of you out there and safe flying for 2017!

Glad to hear you're going again RR. Hope you can enjoy the flight north as much as you did going south.

Man, rezrider I can't wait to hear about all the details. Please fly safe. Ecuador is an awesome country. I enjoyed it when I was there to climb the big volcanoes: Illiniza Sur, Cayambe, and Chimborazo

Yup, I'm here for a few weeks at least.

Celaya, Querétaro, Leon are the airport options in this neighborhood. MMCY, MMQT, MMLO are the codes. Celaya doesn't have gas, so stopping at Morelia (MMMM) would be the place along your line of flight to grab a load of go-juice.

Ok, I'll take a look and see how the route looks.
In Panama city today after a long day in the saddle yesterday. Guayaquil Ecuador to Cali Colombia for fuel and on to Panama city. 7.5 hours in the plane with the last 30 minutes over water in the dark!
We had 3 different dogs in the plane, a record.
A rest day today!

Wow! Trip of a lifetime. What was the coolest area you visited? I'm really liking the pictures of the Atacama Desert.

Thanks for sharing.

The pilot told me that they were spraying mangos near Tapachula Mexico.

P:

The photos you posted coming from San Pedro looked an awfully lot like SE Utah and western NM. Couldn't believe the similarity. Never expected that.

Thanks for sharing!
