Hi, i am interested to hear from the group how everyone deals with the mouse problems associated with owning and hangering. I fly semi-regular( atleast once a week). I am diligent to not leave food debris in the plane. I still have issues time and again with mice and what they leave behind. Attached i have a picture of my most recent attempt to keep them out. I formed and rolled sheet metal hoops to go around each of the main wheels and tailwheel. We shall see... I look forward to the groups thoughts on this.
Thanks in advance!

LOTS OF POISON!! at work in transmitter sites I use "Tomcat" brand bit blocks, they claim to be peanut butter flavored. The mice like them so much they even ate the empty plastic bag out of the trash at one site.

I'm not sure of the "science" behind it but back when I owned a boat and had it stored in the off season the marina tossed in a scattering of dryer sheets and mothballs as a deterrent and I don't recall ever having any issues.

Warfarin works well but if any other "local" carnivores (local kitty cat) gobble up the carcass the net effect could be the same !!!!

I use sheetmetal guards like you have made and have for any years. They have been effective so far.

Must be a real infestation - you posted in at least three GA forums!

The OL asked if you want to borrow a cat.

Hmm, how about hanging some netting across their flight path

I use a large funnel placed along the stinger. It has worked so far - just got to remember to remove it before flight. Supposedly the only access is up the stinger into the tail. Learned the trick at Skywagon fly-in a few years ago. People will ask me what it is used for - I tell them it's a speed mod - gives me 10 knots. Always good for a chuckle.

I use Cab Fresh on and in everything I have. Has a peculiar smell but much more pleasant on the nostrils than decaying mouse smell. Works too!

Thanks for all the responses. Lol I did copy and paste this all over the forums in hopes of feedback.
Ok so my take away from this one is a combination of glue traps and the ring barricades is gonna be my best option.
Cab fresh or dryer sheets sounds simple and effective too.
I cannot afford dead and decomposing rodents in hanger or plane from poison.

My understanding is that most rodent poison uses strychnine,
which kills them by dehydrating them.
I've found dead mice which aren't decomposed, they're kinda mummified.
No rotting smell that I can detect either.
Now if a cat or other predator / scavenger ate them,
I dunno if the poison would affect them in turn.

Dog,
Can we get a picture of the funnel arrangement? I like that idea.
Thanks

When we did the SEL 55-01 inspection we found evidence of mice living in the rear left horizontal stabilizer. I have been using the funnel since that time. This photo is not my airplane - I couldn't find a photo of mine with the funnel but this will give you the idea.

The funnel on the stinger is genius. I will try that.
I had a rat build a nest under a rear seat a few years ago. It took less than a week to make a heck of a mess. The problem wasn't anything in my airplane... it was just that the rat population around the airfield exploded.
