Running Cold

Does anyone in the community have experience with the cold sump setup on a Lycoming 0-360. Is there performance to be gained in the "low level" operational enviroment, below 5000' ASL. Is it worth the effort, cost to install or just a placebo for any true performance gains

Re: Running Cold

I no input on the cold sump, however, from a increase HP standpoint with most any internal combustion engine the gains in HP mods is not cumulative. For example if you do 3 10 hp mods like exhaust, intake, and porting it will not be 30 HP gain. You will most likely only get 13-15 more HP at best. So if you already have a upgraded exhaust or porting I don't think you would see much gain. Cooler air = more O2 to the cylinder which in turn should make more power given more fuel. So how much cooler is the air/ and how does the mod affect fuel atomization and distribution? Does this cool air make for increased chance of carb ice? Still windy out today so good topic. DENNY

Re: Running Cold

I guess the reality is that other than maybe turbo charging nothing really increased HP short of increasing the volumetric capacity of the engine. So I guess it’s more about getting to the rated HP more than increasing the HP. Thoughts on that anyone, please and thank you.
