I'll have to find a carburetor picture that came off of a buggy engine using ethanol mogas; turned the inside of the carb green & fuzzy from corrosion.

A MA 4-5 Marvel must be made of different material since that hasn't happened in over 10 years.

That buggy probably sat with gas in the carb. Same thing happened with my motorcycle. I forgot to drain the carbs before it sat (unplanned) for a while. Ran like crap afterwards so I pulled the carbs to clean them and the bowls were filled with what looked like liquified statue-of-liberty. I gave up and took them to a shop for rebuild. Honda Valkyrie = 6 carbs. Ouch.

If you shut down by cutting the fuel, I think this is much less likely to happen, but I think the ethanol will still contribute varnish to parts it dries off from. Like the inside of a carb that's been shut down with a mixture knob. Still better than letting the fuel bowl sit full and turn green though.

I'll be looking into options. I've heard the low compression PPonk is very well suited to mogas but Steve got fed up with the paperwork and abandoned the STC application after more than 600 hours of testing.

I've found through testing that some premium fuel in BC has no ethanol in it. I've tried 3 local Shell (91 oct) stations and 2 Chevrons (94 oct), and none of them had any ethanol present. I'll still always measure before I fill the tank up though, it's not worth the risk that something slipped by. Locally Premium is selling for around $1.36CAD/L, 100LL from CYXX is $1.89CAD/L. So there is some savings there. If you can get non highway fuel the price is around $1.10CAD/L, which really starts to save you some money.

Right now ethanol free 89-90 octane from Lynden WA is going for around $3.40USD/G which works out to just under $1.08CAD/L

We order premium bulk from Petro Can. They guarantee it to be ethanol free, and it passes my tests every time. It was around $1.05/lt last time we got a fill. Av gas at CYQU is $1.57/lt. So for me MoGas is a big savings.
Not sure about running it in a Pponk. Yes it may work, but it's not approved. Will insurance pay out if something happens and the investigation shows the wrong fuel being used? I can't afford to take the gamble to find out...

Re: Running pump gas

I get marked premium delivered for just over a buck/liter, & mix in some avgas once in awhile. Bart checked my engine last summer & said everything is perfect. Burns just over 6 (Canuck) gal/hr & dyno'd about 175 hp.
ALL premium gas here is corn-free.

Curious as to what station is selling it?
Down here near Port Townsend, WA, the local Cenex Co-op sells E-zero (87 octane) mogas for about $3.10.
Roughly a 35 cent premium over E10 regular.

The 76/Pacific Pride on Front st right off the Guide Meridian, as well as 76/WFC? on Front and 1st.

Have you ever tried testing premium fuel from Shell, Chevron, 76 etc to see if it has ethanol in it? It is cheaper than the advertised ethanol free...

I'm pretty much counting on the fact that if I auger in it will obviously be pilot error that they don't bother dipping the tanks.

If I could get purple gas I would, but it is almost as close to drive to Costco in the US as Aldergrove or Abbotsford.

Shiny used Tidy Tank sitting in the back of my truck tonight...

Petro will dye the premium for me of I ask... they do it for my farm fuel that I get premium.
And true about them probably not dipping the tanks. For me I just keep flying the stock engine. It's enough performance for me right now. Next family plane will be a 206, so it comes with the big hp performance already.
