SE UT trip report.

Did you fly somewhere cool, take photos, and feel like telling the tale to make us drool from the confines of our offices? Post them up!

How rocky was Eagel City? Looking for an easy access slot to go to. This seems to fit the bill.

Eagle City was pretty rocky. I know of one 206 that had a rock hit the horizontal that resulted in some damage coming out of there last year. I would say most of the rocks are fist sized, but scattered among them are orange to grapefruit sized. MTNWEST and I cleared the western 20ftx1000ft for our takeoff. Luckily we heard no loud bangs on departure. Smooth airstrip and it wouldn't take much to get that strip looking great.

Matt, what ever happened to your buddy with the gray Stinson???

He's still around the area and flies often. We are both pretty busy and our schedules haven't cooperated lately (I work weekends).

I wasn't able to get a lot of video from the trip, but this landing with the sunset colors at Mexican Mountain is too beautiful not to post.

Re: SE UT trip report.

I just missed you guys by a week. We went up to dirty devil and camped thursday night, It was fantastic. All the cactus are blooming.
On the way up to Moab to meet family we stopped by mineral canyon to put our feet in the river.
Saturday I took my Dad flying in the Maule for the first time and we went to mexican mountain then cedar mountain.
A great weekend of flying, apart from the 2 hours of turbulence with a headwind coming home today.

Thanks for your trip report, a nice write up with awesome pics.

That picture of the plant is a 'freckled milkvetch' aka loco weed. Poisonous if ingested.
We saw tons of flowers blooming up that way this past weekend.

Matt-

How were the conditions at Fry Canyon? It looked pretty good from your photos. I'm thinking of flying my 210 into there.

Thank you

Thanks Rez! Beautiful flower/plant that I figured was poisonous.

Thank you

A 210 would be very doable. The surface was in good shape and hard packed. A few things to note: 1) Looks like an ATV went down the strip and left a slight rut in the middle (perhaps 1.5" deep), 2) Rwy 30 (east end) prior to the cross road has a 4" berm of dirt down the center for the runway, might be a hazard for nose wheels, 3) Big erosion ditch on the south side of rwy 30 (east end) prior to the cross road. I would land rwy 30 after the cross road if conditions permit.

Image

Hope that helps, wish we had more time on our trip to go for a hike in the canyon. Next time....
