When playing around the other day shooting hillside T & G's above my place, I spotted these deer and decided to see how close I could get to them. A short final at idle, carrying a little extra speed because of the upslope, and then I just sat there, engine still idling. They perked up a bit but didn't run, they gradually got bored and wondered off. I guess the Swiss muffler is still doing it's thing pretty well, after 1000 hours I wouldn't feel bad about re-packing it (less then 50 bucks) but I'm not going to bother

Those are good looking deer.

On my landing you will notice one white tail near where I touch down and another to the left during my roll out. This is a great area for hunting.

That was a little freaky! Those things can do some damage! I saw a Piaggio after it did a last minute go around at his remote destination because a deer ran out in front of it and he hit it with his right main gear and then chose to divert to the nearest ARFF airport as a precaution which was a good idea! After landing his right main collapsed and he slid off the right side of the runway. Lots of deer blood on the side of the plane but his five (?) passengers and the kids that were with them and the german shepard were all fine. No fire but lots of repairs needed!

I never understood why a Huey didn't bother elk when an airplane engine did. We flew right up to large herds of elk in New Mexico on drill weekends. Saw very few from airplanes.

Coyotes are more fun.

This particular landing was just at sunset and I was anxious to get home. I should have landed from the other direction at that time of day.
That is when the deer normally come out of the forest. Luckily they are very wild and aware of sounds. These are smart deer.

We do have coyotes as well as migrating elk, occasional moose, bears and other animals. This is, however, a dense white tail area.
The hunting is excellent.

I do seem to rely a lot on good luck and not too much on skill and cunning.

My home strip is on 30 acres of grass. I will take some pics this weekend it it's nice or maybe even a vid. My wife counted 118 whitetail on the field. I had to shoo them away ......it took me 4 shoo aways before I landed. 1 was about 150 class 12 point.....will be looking for him next year
