Looks like good planning on the part of the pilot involved. It was smart to aim for a mobile home. Might have got scraped up some if he had hit a real house.

Re: Somebody crashed the Champ

Maybe, but hard to believe he was "aiming" that thing. More like holding on at that point.

Re: Somebody crashed the Champ

I'm bettin' this guy was so far behind the power curve that he was lucky just to hit the ground.

Re: Somebody crashed the Champ

I figure he was lucky to hit the doublewide. The ground would have been 'hard' at that angle.....

We now have photo documentation that a little GA plane can't even do a thorough job of taking out the living space of a doublewide in a kamakazi dive......

Ok, ok, it is not funny

Humor may not make the world go around, but it certainly cheers up the process... :)
With clothing, the opposite of NOMEX is polypro (polypropylene cloth and fleece).

Re: Somebody crashed the Champ

So I'm still not sure where having the 3rd wheel placed could affect a crash like that!! He must have been flying.

Re: Somebody crashed the Champ

Holyshit!
Very funny commentary from the peanut gallery!
The concept of being behingd the "power" curve of a Champ seems so far fetched at this point in my aviation career but I believe that Gump has hit it on the head. So glad that no one got killed (especially members of the public), so sad that another operator has been showed that they shouldn't rent taildraggers and that aviation has had another negative pr swing in the public eye.

Wasn't there another crash at/near Aurora this weekend?

I've heard 3rd hand now that he didn't even have a TW endorsement and was just a friend of the owner.

Well apparently it was accompanied by zero tailwheel experience, Grandad. :P
