Have you modified your aircraft? STC? STOL Kit? Major rebuild from just a data plate?

Stinson 0-470 STC

Hi,

Could anyone provide me with a copy of the old PDX Flight Manual Supplement for the 0-470 in the 180-3?

Thanks

Re: Stinson 0-470 STC

There was a link from this page:

http://c-spa.org/v2/classified/1948-stinson-108-3.html

But unfortunately the link is finally dead....

Try contacting Cliff Gerber
http://c-spa.org/v2/contact.html

...he had one of those Stinsons and might know where to get the STC.

Good Luck!

Re: Stinson 0-470 STC

This guy seems to be a curator of Stinson information, you might give him a call or email him:

http://www.hangar9aeroworks.com/108main.html

Edit: I fell down the internet rabbit hole on this one, starting here:

https://web.archive.org/web/20060306203 ... ~bphilpot/ (cached archive of the dead link that Nate posted)

Sounds like it was owned by a guy named Tim Austen, who sold it to someone in Alaska, as reported by John Baker. I'd call him,

Re: Stinson 0-470 STC

Thanks to everyone who responded, and I'll certainly follow up and let you all know (I've got posts on all the Stinson sites I can find) I have a copy of the STC, SA1199WE, but have not been able to contact the current STC holder. The STC specifically states, "A copy of this certificate and FAA Approved Flight Manual Supplement (Landplane and Seaplane) dated July 10, or later FAA approved revision, must be maintained part of the permanent records for the modified aircraft." The current owner has misplaced his copy...everything else appears OK.

Thanks again

Re: Stinson 0-470 STC

From maulepilots.com

Contact Seth or Carlon at Tundrahawk LLC in Anchorage, AK... They are new STC holders and should be getting close to having some parts, I did paperwork transfer stuff for the STC for them several months ago, as well as the PMA Authority, etc... try 907-631-1029 for Carlon, or 907-227-5875 for Seth... If no answer, leave mssg's as they stay pretty busy and Carlon is out in remote area...

John,

Just finished one of these conversions in February...
As gassman said the STC was bought out by Tundrahawk LLC...
Talked to the owner of the Stinson I did the conversion on and he is willing to shoot you a copy of his AFMS... He is out of town but I have access to his records except it will take me a day or two to get them out and get them copied off...

Re: Stinson 0-470 STC

Thanks....I'll look forward to getting a copy. E-mail me if you need a mailing address. I'll pass along the info on the STC holder to the owner, who wants to talk to them almost as badly as I do.

Best,

Older post, I know. But, like John, I am looking for the same thing. Can anyone help me out with a copy?

Thanks,

Re: Stinson 0-470 STC

I just happened to see a couple photos of a Stinson 108 "PDX conversion" in a very nice
coffee-table book I was checking out: "Bush Pilots of Alaska".
Never heard of that one before, googled it and found this old(er) thread.
FWIW here's one of those photos, note the very prominent added dorsal.

Re: Stinson 0-470 STC

Hello,
I ran across this thread and just wanted to add a few comments.
I was involved with the previous owner of STC SA1199WE(Tim A.) for many years. He lives just a few miles away form me. I made all the sheet metal parts for many kits between 2001-2015.
I was then asked by Carlon to continue supporting Tundrahawk as they took over the STC/PMA. I actually completed 5 full kits for them. I too have not heard from them in a LONG time. My last communication many months ago was the STC was completed but no PMA authority yet. Current status is unknown. Would really like to hear from them as I have many tools, drawings, parts gathering dust.

A few years back I installed a STC kit on a friends plane...he is a member here who goes by flathorn. The whole 470/prop install,, cowl mods, door windows, oil filter STC, extended cargo and such. Worked with a DER for the x-tended baggage. I think the plane is undergoing wiring and final assy.

I have pics to post if anyone is interested......

Re: Stinson 0-470 STC

Yes, From what I know, Tim bought the STC from Sam. He then asked me to fab all the sheet metal parts for future kit sales. He did the engine mounts, hardware, packaging, etc....
Tim was also working on a long chord flap mod when he decided to sell the 470 package to TundraHawk. I did a prototype for him for STC testing.

The kit I installed on flathorn's plane was an early kit from when Sam owned it. Had been sitting in a box for years with the project aircraft.
Here are some pics. Looking at them I forgot we did a poly-carbonate roof also.

Re: Stinson 0-470 STC

I guess I'm the only one who enjoyed seeing the Stinson!

I'm curious if the 470 STC is only for the 108-3,
or is it applicable to the smaller-tailed models also?

Re: Stinson 0-470 STC

They can be put in the -1 and -2 as well. There are some differences in the installation.

Makes a very capable platform with the additional hp. I am getting ready to install a 220 hp and cs to mine this winter.
