Stinson 0-470 STC

Have you modified your aircraft? STC? STOL Kit? Major rebuild from just a data plate?

Re: Stinson 0-470 STC

The Stinson I did the conversion to is a -2... And I have been pouring over all the paperwork and found out we are missing the Flight Manual Supplement as well...

We stuck a 470-J on ours... Although we modified it with the larger through studs basically making it a -k case with -J cylinders... The airplane is a beast with that engine and constant speed prop... Really just two issues... It's a bit short on fuel and can use aux tanks... And with the -2 tail you have to be careful on takeoff to not pour the power on to fast as it will torque off the runway on you... Only other possible issue is to keep an eye on the airspeed when trimmed out level as she will bump the redline pretty easily... [emoji3]

If anyone can get that AFMS I'm sure everyone would appreciate a copy...

Tundrahawk as they took over the STC/PMA. I actually completed 5 full kits for them. I too have not heard from them in a LONG time. My last communication many months ago was the STC was completed but no PMA authority yet. Current status is unknown. Would really like to hear from them as I have many tools, drawings, parts gathering dust......

I looked up the STC, FAA sez Tundrahawk still owns it.
No info re whether it's being marketed or PMA status.

The STC is very specific about approved props-- two different Hartzells & two different Macs.
Interestingly both Mac are old threaded designs, the newer threadless C200 series is not included.

The whole 470/prop install,, cowl mods, door windows, oil filter STC, extended cargo and such. Worked with a DER for the x-tended baggage. I think the plane is undergoing wiring and final assy. I have pics to post if anyone is interested......

I would enjoy seeing those pics.

Is there a current pathway to put an O-470 into a 108-3? Curious about the current state of this STC.

Sort of off topic but where is a good online resource to learn more about the 108 series? I’d like to do some reading.

Was talking to someone about a particular STC for the PA-22 and he commented that it was unsupported and abandoned by the originator, and thus had become public domain. Thought that was both interesting and far too sensible. The problem is that you need to get your hands on the documents.

I want to say that I heard that one of the Alsworth's own the STC now, in Alaska.

TundraHawk LLC owns it, one of my coworkers. He gave a reason why they weren't selling STC's right now but I forgot what it was.

Re: Stinson 0-470 STC

I don't know if this will help anybody, but here are the STC and AFM supplement for putting the O-470 into a Stinson 108. I used to be partners in a -3 on floats and this engine is what makes it. Yes, pretty skimpy on fuel with 50 gal tanks, 46 useable.
