Strait Tail 182's

At the High Sierra Fly In this was my static display. Me not the plane. Who else loves to fly these great planes in the back country?

Re: Strait Tail 182's

If I did not run into a slight medical problem I was negotiating for one.
May be back at it after my birthday this coming 5-06-17.

Got to fly quite a few out out of McCall when 'showing' and explaining the specifics of approaches that others were curious about and I had been there a few times.
Lots of em back in there when I was more active.

The last plane I had hoped to own was a Warner powered Fairchild 24 with roll up windows. Comfortable as an old 50s Buick.

Wannabe back soon

It is better to be late in this world, than early in the next.

Strait Tail 182's

When you're a famous handsome country singer, you're bound to be deep in tail, AKA "Strait tail." Similar phenomenon with old 182 pilots.

Re: Strait Tail 182's

Been trying to think of his name for yrs....took one look at picture and name popped in my head... Buck Stewart old Alaska Fish & Game enforcement game warden before they went to State Troopers. Had a green straight tail on big tires, which were 850's at the time 8) Don't know what he had for mods or engine and prop but it was a hell of a performer. He would go anywhere a cub could go back in the day, before everyone tried to make helicopters out of cubs  MTV might remember Buck 8)

Re: Strait Tail 182's

Upgraded to a 59 B model after my 172N. I love it, fun to fly, love the trim-able stabilizer. I found i much prefer manual flaps. Swapped my airglas fork and tires over from the 172 on the first week i flew it home. Fairly expensive first annual, plus 3 days of my own hard labor doing a fuel cell and alternator upgrade, but that was fully expected from buying a hanger queen. 2400TT on it. I obtained from the original owner a few pics of her in her former glory days.

Lets see the strait tail 172. Any strait tail Cessna with a big tire in the front looks good to. Post the pic. Even 175's with strait tails are just fine.

Have you got two planes?

I considered converting one of those to a Land-O-Matic

Re: Strait Tail 182's

I think i read your 172 airglas install article a few dozen times Jared before I made the plunge and bought the kit. Never a regret with it. I did wait until they allowed the 800 on the nose with the 850's though. That is definatley the ticket...

1957 182A

I bought it from the owner who's father bought it back in 1959. Been in the west it's entire life. I have put over 150 hours on it since April of 2016.

It is my commuter/hauler between Eastern PA and my home in OH. Love this airplane.

I love seeing these airplanes! Your 182 is sure a beauty Evan! I'm anxious to see it with fat tires.

Similar phenomenon with old (and young)182 pilots

This is true. I have to beat them off of me with a stick. Apparently a the "Tailwheel= Large Manhood" school of thought is limited just to male tailwheel pilots. Women actually don't care.

Its a known fact that in nature, the bigger and flashier you make yourself, you become more attractive to the opposite sex.

Note how large and high the Straight Tail 182's tail is from the ground. Cough!
