Wow.... I rarely if ever let my posts in a non political forum go politics.... But I can't imagine what kind of balls it takes to let your first post ever on a forum, be one that is telling regulars how and what they should post...

Suggestions for a Turbine Back Country

Rshannon, I beat the "no politics" thing like a rented dog normally but sometimes funny is funny for everyone. In this case I thought it was ok, especially since the fun pokers had trouble with spelling, and we all stayed on topic pretty well. Ya gotta pick your battles. The right threads will be put in the Hot Air forum as a courtesy for readers and to prevent Google indexing. Those who have a problem with that policy, too bad.

What you should ask yourself is "if I dislike this, is it wise to bring it back up after the thread has been pure airplane talk for 4 pages?" There's irony in there.

(And edited it with a "my bad" btw) The original thread misspelled turbine as turban so somebody took a jab. Big deal. What’s next we can't argue about wheel landings and 3 points? I quit frequenting a couple other forums because of the kindergarten PC police. Maybe I'm out of touch and that's where we are in aviation but I'd prefer to hang with the big kids who can have an adult conversation without crying about who's politician is getting picked on today...

Reminds me of that Curb Your Enthusiasm episode where Larry submitted the obituary for his wife's aunt, that started with "Beloved aunt..." and the paper printed it with a typo.

Yoooze guyz makes me laugh sumtimez! No matter the spellin'.
I ain't a good speller neither, just a good turbun driver. :D
I thought the shiznit wuz funny miself.

Here'z my breakdown on this subgect;
And I mean of airplanes that are actually in some numbers, certified, ready to register, insure and fly tomorrow.

Small - Turbine Maule

Medium - Pilatus Porter

Large - Turbine Single Otter, PT-6 unless you're working at altitude then go Garrett.

Extra Large - Twin Otter with at least -27's if not -34's.

Dreamy shit that's hard to come by or approve or both;

Small - Italian Turbine Bird Dog

Medium - Helio Stallion with a -34

Large - ?? Prolly still the Single Otter, hard to beat. ??

Extra Large - PZL M28 Skytruck, mostly because it's about the size of a Twin Otter with -65's!

JUMBO - DeHavilland Buffalo

Re: Suggestions for a Turbine Back Country

Im going to try and get the Tiger PT6-206 onto your Dreamy Shit list. Ive dreamed of it for a while. All my planes are already light and have some of the best Stol mods so with that Horse power I should be able to put on a show.

Re: Suggestions for a Turbine Back Country

The fact that it goes like a raped ape.
You do the math, put about 420 horsepower on the same little fabric covered fuselage that usually has 180, 210, 235, 0r 260 horsepower and then make the prop be able to make air go forward as well..........

Of course for every action there is a reaction!

They are waaaay more money, they can be fueled at fewer places, they can't be propped, and insurance is going to be waaay more for more than one reason, currency is probably fairly important so that also increases your cost of operation.

Re: Suggestions for a Turbine Back Country

And, lowflyin failed to mention the fact that the turbine Maule is going to burn almost double the amount of fuel as a recip powered one. But, it doesn't carry any more fuel. Hence, LOTS more fuel stops.

The same is true of most small turbine powered aircraft, actually. The fuel burn of turbine engines at low altitudes is always high. Lots of HP though.

And, Lowflyin, you failed to list the DHC-2 Mark III Turbo Beaver. Preferably with a better version of the PT-6 than the -20A.....

Definition of a complex airplane: landing a taildragger on pavement with a 20 knot quartering crosswind.

Re: Suggestions for a Turbine Back Country

I'll leave the JATO and take a 130J long model.
