Tailwheel signoff

I'm getting my FX-3 carbon cub next month and need to get my sign off first. I live in Washington state and have about 1200 hours or so of tri gear but no tail wheel time. Is there anyone around that has access to a tail wheel and is an instructor that would be interested launching another tail-wheel flyer?

How about Tac Aero for your initial training? They seem to do a lot of the training for CubCrafters.

Call CC, they have an outfit they send their t/w newbies to (maybe it's this Tac Aero but not sure).

Columbia Aviation at KSPB also do tailwheel endorsements, they're just west of Portland. It's a 160hp Pacer, so side-by-side with the instructor as opposed to an in-line setup like a Cub.

Learn in a Pacer and you’ll have no issues with a Cub!

Re: Tailwheel signoff

We don't require a "tail wheel" checkout in Canada and I grew up flying tail-draggers with sticks. Now I have a 170, its a great airplane but even to this day a yoke just feels weird.

Same here. I used one hand in the middle until my last crash weakened me. Now, whoever flys with me has to be sure the throttle doesn't creep back. I am also used to flying behind tired engines.

Where in Washington? I do the occasional tail wheel checkout in my Citabria from Tacoma.
I do highly recommend TacAero to anyone who asks though.

Besides, always know which way your aeroplane is pointed.

That'd be perfect for a friend of mine -- he has a Pacer but needs a checkout (5 or maybe 10 hours dual) before his insurance kicks in.
He'd already heard about Columbia Aviation's t/w training,
but was under the impression the airplane was being repaired after a (student) groundloop.
I checked Columbia's website-- it refers to Pacers (plural).
Do you know f they have one available for training now?

Re: Tailwheel signoff

Yes, 22D is back in action at Columbia Aviation, better than ever. I got my tailwheel sign-off in that plane. They also have a tri-pacer for primary training.

Bergstrom Aircraft in Pasco (KPSC) here on the East side has a Citabria and does checkouts.

Aero Maintenance at Pearson (KVUO) is in Vancouver, WA right across the Columbia River from PDX. I got my BFR there in the J-5. I think it is $90/hr wet + Instructor.

Yes, CC sends their t/w newbie aircraft buyers to TAC Aero for training. They have a basic 1 day checkout or a comprehensive 5 day checkout. See their website for more info: https://tacaero.com/cubcrafters/

They can do the training in your aircraft or in one of theirs (X-cub, Carbon Cub, Top Cub). Money well spent for sure.

Or they could call you...do you still do flight training? I know you did a good job on me when I was trying to scare you.

Ha!
