Re: The 206H Is Finally In The Hanger

That was one of the funniest things I've read lately. I read most of your post to my wife, and we laughed together over it. "Hard to remove as an African leader." "Perverted mating session with your instrument panel." "Orbiting alongside Musk's Tesla." I felt like I was right there with you.

Please, tell us more!

"Holi" is a big deal, it is also called the "Festival of Colors" and celebrates the end of winter, the arrival of spring, and a good harvest.
They just had a photo of some painted Indian beauties in my local newspaper yesterday here in Smalltown USA..
They didn't mention the dog shit on the sidewalk though... at least I hope that's dog shit. Ugh.

Not sure what he did as a freedom fighter, being an actor, it could have been something akin to “Free my Willy.” When I pass on I want a memorial just like this on a main road:

Just googled him up.

http://eternalcinema.com/forgotten-face ... das-mehra/

Before becoming a well-known & prolific actor, he was a cycling competitor:
"Freedom fighter" must refer to his flag-raising activities.

"Jankidas was interested in sports from a young age. Although cycling was a sport at which Indians had shown much promise in the fifties; Jankidas can be hailed as the first Indian Cyclist of distinction. He broke eight world cycling records between 1934 and 1942 and represented India in the World Olympic Games in 1936 at Berlin. He was also India’s sole representative at the British Empire Games (Commonwealth games) in 1938 at Sydney, Australia and at the Eastern Games in 1940 in Tokyo. He became the first Indian to have hoisted India’s national flag (pre-independence) at the World Sports Congress in Zurich. He served as the only Indian member of the international Olympic committee at the 1936 Olympic Games in Berlin."

Re: The 206H Is Finally In The Hanger

I just saw this thread and I think it triggered my PTSD from my last trip to India. I spent 6 weeks there trying to get my approvals to do the "supervision" of a couple of local pilots on a new bizjet. I tried to get my license validated to fly a VT reg aircraft. After 10 days in country self study of all of their laws and regulations I got to go home because they didn't like all of my copious documentation and letters from the FAA and the company attesting to my licenses and experience as an instructor on said shiny business jet. Because they were in the form of emails sent directly from aforementioned individuals to the fat mustachioed guy at the DGCA. Of course they had all this information literally for 4 months before I got there. What they didn't like was the letters were "not on official stamphead". I was like, "This is 20--something...who the f*** uses letterhead?" Indians do. I asked the "consultant" that handled this boondoggle if I could just bribe the guy. He said, that's later, you didn't make it that far yet.

So back on BA for 17 hours home. Actually went to the home office of the manufacturer and had them procure some shiny gold stars and an embosser from the HR department and affix these stars to all the emails (now printed on heavy bond official letterhead paper that someone dug out from a supply bin c.1990) and my Jeppesen Professional Pilot Logbook (because they also did not like my electronic logbook printout.)

So I jump back on BA and head back to Delhi and repeat the process of meeting with the DGCA official and his cronies in a dank office in the middle of their dilapidated monkey infested compound. After some chai and some BS, the guy half-assed looks at my binder full of gold stars and asks me some generic questions about the plane and holy-Vishnu I'm a newly minted Indian pilot. Just like that.

Except it took another month before I got my "All Airports Security Badge" and by then my time was up, so back home.

India is definitely a special place.

Re: The 206H Is Finally In The Hanger

And if you do any work for them, get the full amount, plus some, upfront... I once did a pre-purchase inspection on a nice C90A in South Africa for a wealthy Indian Kingfisher Airlines 'Captain'. Agreed work scope and price, 50% upfront as I usually do. Big mistake. Not cheap to travel there, review the logs, the aircraft and do a couple HSI's

Me - It's a good plane, I have the sale documents ready to go, you've paid a deposit, let's conclude the deal

Kingfisher Captain - No, I don't really like the color of the stripes

Me - Ok, no problems, your money, your choice, but you've paid a deposit, it really is a tidy plane and a good deal, we can paint out the striping

KC - No, I don't want it now

Me - Ok, no probs, here's an invoice for the balance owing

KC - But I didn't buy the plane?

Me - I know, but I completed the work we agreed on, for the amount we agreed on

KC - But I didn't buy the plane? Why do I have to pay this?

Me - Because I did the work. I actually traveled to SA and physically performed the work we agreed on for the price we agreed on

KC - But I didn't buy the plane so I don't have to pay?

...and repeat for months on end until I gave up and vowed to never deal with one again.
