Took the Champ out to try out the new fuel tank and exhaust stacks. Lots of rain, the river had really come up...been a few years since it looked like this.
Water flowing into the weir now...haven't seen that for a few years. Some land my Aunt's family owns up in the hills. We used to land there and go deer hunting but they built that cattle chute and kind of crowded the runway. https://www.backcountrypilot.org/images ... d49c15.jpg Pokey Joe
Flew a buddy home who works out of town and has been doing the 4 hour drive each way once a week for years now. After making the flight in a little over an hour with some sight-seeing thrown in I think I made a believer out of him. This guy who operates excavators and every other type of heavy equipment is amazed at the unbelievable skill and coordination it must take to keep a plane in the air! I tried to explain that flying a plane is really no more difficult than what he does, although I allowed it may be less forgiving in certain circumstances. Lake Shasta full of silt and debris from the recent storms. Flying down the Valley I heard a guy I know on the radio who just got a very nice new toy. We both landed at a nearby airport and he let me check it out. Pretty cool plane, you could definitely haul some toys in it. Pretty impressive performer too...I think his landing was shorter than mine! Headed out to the west side for a taildragger fix now.
Had a really enjoyable flight yesterday over on the west side. Flew over a friends ranch. He waved at me and ran over and moved his tractor and grabbed his dog so I figured I was clear to land. Dropped in and sampled some venison sausage and almonds that he roasts. Followed the river back down the valley.
Ended up flying until sunset after leaving Ranchaero. The almond orchards were in bloom, and it was just a really nice day to be in the air. Here are some of the sights:
CFOT purty pix, thanks. Love this time of year in the Northern Sacramento Valley. We are busy spraying the the almonds right now. After the Sacramento River went down it left Princeton International the smoothest I've seen it. Bring your lawn chair and some refreshments and we could meet up some afternoon. Mike
Thanks MCH, that was a great day! I guess we did ok because Vicki completely filled the memory card on her camera and wanted to go up again after lunch and fly over Feather Falls. Great bucket list birthday for her, she is a trooper for sure.
