Re: The Kid Who Steals Planes

I saw a story on this guy a while back on Dateline. They interviewed his former partner-in-crime who is still in the pokey. He said they only did roberries because it was a "victimless crime", that "no one was hurt". Try telling that to the hard working folks that have lost thousands to this young man. The really sad part of this is that he appears to be a clever and resourceful person. If he put all that ability into honest labor he'd never want for anything in his life. I thank the good lord I had family and older friends that taught me the value of work, and the rewards of living an honest life. It has sometimes not been an easy road, but it has always been traveled with a clear conscience.
If he would happen to ever read this I doubt that it would affect him. He would probaly get a good laugh from my little rant. That's the real tragedy.

You're right about that! These kids today are destroying their souls.

It's sad, but that goofy kid would probably say the same thing about having a clear conscience. Says a lot, just like his buddy's "victomless crime" comment.

Someone in Indiana missing a plane? Sounds like it is in the Bahamas.
Lets hope he stays there.

What ticks me off about the "Barefoot Bandit" is that ever since he was found to be on Lopez Island, I have resorted to locking my hanger....What kind of world do we live???? Locked hangers...what next??

Here in Maryland, we are being told by the TSA that we have to lock our hangers. I asked if I could hang a pair of bolt cutters next to the lock. This way if there is a fire someone can cut the lock and pull my plane out. [-o<

Locking anything is ridiculous. I cut through steel and concrete every day. Hand tools can get you in anywhere provided you have the right ones.

Re: The Kid Who Steals Planes

It seems like any airplane theft now is quickly attributed to Colton Harris by the media. Frankly, I don't see him making a successful cross-country in a new Corvalis, with refueling stops, etc without being noticed. Who knows... I do wish they'd find his body though.

Well, the idiot is on an island now. All they need to do is watch the marinas and airport and the kid will show up sooner or later.

No doubt John Krakauer is writing a book at this very instant about this poor, disturbed, rebellious, yet brilliant child. Either Johnny Depp or Sean Penn will play the lead in the movie version......

Re: The Kid Who Steals Planes

He has been on an island before and didn't get caught. I am very impressed that Homeland Security couldn't find him but then again he probably didn't tell them where he was going via E-Apis filings like the rest of us have to do. Pitiful.

Re: The Kid Who Steals Planes

If the locals in the Bahamas get ahold of him there wont be enough left to identify.
They'll probly drag him through the streets behind a pickup truck, and the way they drive
he wont last long.

But I really dont think he flu to the islands in a Cessna. He's probly still in Western Wash.
Every time a plane gets stolen now its the Bare Foot Bandit. Its probly just a BP manager
Escaping out of the country.

The Corvalis is perfectly capable of making that flight without a fuel stop and it is as easy to fly as a 182...if you know how to work a G1000 you just set it for maximum range cruise and sit back, relax, and enjoy the speed while you make your way to the destination.
