Imagine me tapping a beer stein with a steak knife a few times while standing up on a chair:
I hate that I still have to say this, but... I'm pretty busy. I'm extremely fortunate to have landed a project that pays pretty well, and I have been focusing on that for the last 2 years. I landed this prized project, which is very time consuming, right as I started making announcements about the new BCP. That was in the days of being self-employed (technically) and not having much of a workload. How I could afford a plane back then... I do not know. Well, I couldn't, it turns out.

I had us really close to BCP 2.0 back then (May 2010), but stuff like migrating our 10GB of photos from this gallery to the new one, migrating the forum data to a new forum software, and managing to do it without interrupting service was a challenge. The software packages I planned to use were a little immature in their development, and I hit a point where I couldn't create a situation where I broke something and had to let it sit while I worked to pay the mortgage.
The donations and shirt/jacket sales have helped a lot. The BCP bank account pays for increased hosting costs, as we've experience A LOT more traffic to the site in the last year. I ramped up our server resources recently, and the cost went from... well it went up by hundreds of percent. I'll likely have to reevaluate server resources again when I begin using new software, as it's a little more demanding. The advertising from Google ads helps quit a bit too. Thanks for tolerating those. I don't really make money on this, but I have some adequate income from the ads and shirt sales to keep it alive without my personal income needing to support it, and I do keep them separate. I don't want to pad my income, I want to create a backcountry flying community. I've already been well paid in making friends, and having aviation experiences around the country just by virtue of being a member here.
I think information sharing should be free, with knowledge contribution being the currency, which is why I don't push a membership structure like supercub.org has. It works well for them, but it's just not me. The only benefit I see to that is selling access to a private section occupied by users you trust, with real identities, but even then you're not safe. I'm still working on that problem.
Anyway, long story short, there will be a staggered rollout. BCP will get a new face, but you'll use the old forum for a while. I want a single login to give you guys access to all the features, so there's always a challenge in deciding how to do that. The photo gallery might go offline for..a while. Luckily many of you use your own Photobucket, Picasa, Flickr, accounts anyway.
So, I do think about this a lot. Luckily we have enough personality and stuff to BS about that a simple forum has kept us entertained for years...
