That was exactly why I went 60x60. 50x50 was just not quite comfy to move one without disturbing the other.

God put me here to accomplish a certain amount of things...right now I'm so far behind, I'll never die!!

Im guessing that when you get into these widths its a lot cheaper to add depth than width? 60 x 60 is 44% more area than 50 x 50, but I imagine truss price goes up.

Never met anyone who complained that they built their hangar too big.

No but I bet my wife would

I have a quote for a 60 by 40 $92,400 not including electrical. 60 by 60 is 50% bigger. I know you only buy the door once but you have to draw a line someplace. Can we do a go fund me on BCP. Anybody that donates a grand or more can use the hangar if you drop by.

I'm not sure what the door costs, but we recently had a three bay pole barn garage built about that size for less than half that, turnkey, wired. Is this a steel building, or stud walls with real insulation? That just seems steep.

Wood pole barn is much cheaper than a metal building. There are several pole structure airplane hangars at 1O5 (Montague, CA) there is a really big one at S05 (Bandon, OR) with a bifold door. I may look into that

Re: Thinking of building a hangar-Best size

Understood. We have two pole barn hangars. One with a 50x50 with a bifold door, and the other a 50x100 with a hydroswing. I built the smaller myself, and it was about 25k finished. The other was perhaps 65k built for us. We live in dry country, so the posts don't see moisture. I prefer the operation of the bifold, except that it has latches on the inside to suck it up the last few inches to stay tight. It sticks out less, especially in motion, has less wind load, and needs less support structure in the building to hold the cantilever loads. It also needed less snow clearing to get it open wide enough to plow across the front of the hangar. The hydroswing could be opened with a garage door opener though, which was very nice.

That airport shut down, and I'm now at an airport on ground leases that require steel, so the high cost makes sense if it is required.

Yeh some airports want nothing but steel. Pole structures have the trusses on 12 foot centers. So 60 wide by 48 deep would be nice. I need to have a talk with the airport authority. 16' to bottom of trusses would make it nice to build a mezzanine
