Re: UPDATE 8/2 -My Cessna 180 Project

I hope I don't misunderstand how the price is right rules work. But if I guess the 15th and plane flies on the 14th I thought I would win as long as nobody guessed closer (closest without going over - over is the fly date). Since the next guess is the 10th (flyenger) I have a 5-day window to win after friday. I'd assumed "going over" meant the actual flight date/time is past when you guess. Once your guess time passes - you are out.

Do I misunderstand?

Re: UPDATE 8/2 -My Cessna 180 Project

Yeah, The Price is Right rules would be YOUR guess can't be above (or in this case, after) the actual date. So if flyengr has the 10th and no one is between him and your guess of the 15th then he'll win if its between those days.

Contestant 1 guesses the prize package to be valued at $5000
Contestant 2 guesses the prize package to be valued at $5001

Actual prize value = $4000...nobody wins
Actual prize value = $6000...Contestant 2 wins

Of course, I'll defer to contest organizer...but that's my understanding of TPiR.

Good luck...I'm out

Re: UPDATE 8/2 -My Cessna 180 Project

Ruh, roh. I know I should have watched more TV when I was growing up.

I understood "going over" to mean that the fly date is after your guess and not that your guess was over (after) the fly date. I guess 15, flyengr guesses 10. Date is 14th (for example) i assumed flyengr loses since the date was over (past) his guess. But I lose because my guess was over the actual date.

Now that you point it out - I guess this makes sense. That's why people guess $1.

Oh well, I still have a couple dogs in the race there somewhere. I'm excited nonetheless and still praying. Just tell us who won.

Short explaination: Whoever gets closest without going over. Watched too much tv when I was a kid. LOL

Re: UPDATE 8/2 -My Cessna 180 Project

Well here we go with another update...I know I keep saying we are close and I keep telling myself that...

As of today I feel like I am still a little bit out. Guessing at least a week... #-o :( With all of the "little" things that need attention given how much we have done to her we are now just addressing the loose ends. Crazy but true...there is always something.

I will try to go through the items here in photos...

For starters...the new rubber for the baffling arrived. We pulled the old rubber out today and started to add the new.
Image

Needing to replace this (we have the new one in hand) as a bolt hole was cracked during removal :x (easy fix) Will also need to vaccum out the inside of this tank...
Image

I ended up replacing all of these as they were cracked. You will see why they are not screwed back in yet...
Image

We need to fit the control cables back into the wings...
Image

Any idea how long the new wings are with the Wing X? Try 39.8 feet!
Image

Ever curious how much the Sportsman adds to a stock Cessna wing...this pic give you a good idea...over 3 inches
Image

Battery is and has been firewall forward...this may end up changing depending on the actual weight of the nose
Image

Before the new baffling but thought this was a great shot of my oil cooler...it has been overhauled and she looks brand new!
Image

Looking up at the new engine...she sure is pretty
Image

This is also an easy fix but it needs attention
Image

New interior flooring from SCS arrived and fit like a glove
Image

Baby BW and cables that need to go on...easy....also my cowling sitting there. It went to a machine shop and came out great!
Image

Not certain I like how close the alt sits to the firewall. Will need to address this...Ideas? We have some as well... I can fit 2 business cards behind it now... :x :(
Image

Right wing flap needs to go on...Easy...you can also see my boot covers (stainless steel behind the rubber on the leading edge) for the horizontal here and my GoPro mount (its a surfboard mount)
Image

So thats about that for now...Its frustrating as I type all this and think...wow I have a lot to do still but really its not that much as I think those of you that know will agree. Its all just little stuff. Of course we still have all the probes and such along with the exhaust and prop details but we are thinking about a good solid week ahead and she should be ready to fire up. Almost 6000 views here...I am blown away. I will keep you posted as the work progresses... :?

I sure dont like looking at her with those little tires...I dont think she likes they way they feel either...

Hey Kevin, looking good!

That flooring looks pretty sweet...I cracked a floor board recently and I'm thinking about other options. Can you send me or post some more details?

No doubt! Been thinking about that first flight A LOT, given all that we have done. Its going to be an entirely different plane.

The wings for starters are much different with the SM kit and extensions, not to mention the "angle of incidence" given we have them at neutral now. Not certain whats going to happen there. Hoping that we dont need to change much. May end up with a wing heavy, who knows. All the builders out there, any ideas? Its going to be fun and I will have several rags in my palms soaking up the sweat I am certain...

Never heard of SCS-- is that floor covering all pre-cut? Seems like you usually have to cut & fit stuff like that yourself, which sometimes comes out good (and sometimes not). What I can see of it looks great. What kind of pricing on that?

They sent me a pattern first at no charge ( =D> =D> ) to see how it would fit. From there I said I need to have 2 inches here and 1/4 inch there etc. There really was not much to change from the paper pattern they sent. I only needed it lengthened 2 inches. They cut to your specifications. Had the new flooring about 5 days later. You can see the link here. Its FAA approved and lighter than you can imagine. You can also vary your thickness and get an extra piece to go under it for sound proofing. These guys were pro from the word go! It looks better in person than in the photos.

a friend of mine had a similar problem. He cut a hole in the fire wall and riveted in a small stainless dog food bowl on the back side, mind you thas was a home built. In your case you could fly cut a hole a little bigger than the pully to allow for belt wear, adjusting and engine vibration. and do something similar. Either a SS cat bowl with a flange or go to a metal spinning shop and have them spin a small dish shaped object with a lip around it and rivet it to the inside. I have had this done for other projects and was surprised by how economical it was. Getting approval might be another matter, but probably doable. Nice project.

Re: UPDATE 8/8 -My Cessna 180 Project

I don't know much but I think cutting a hole in the firewall won't be much of an option in a certificated plane. My second uneducated thought was shims on the motor mounts (or alternator mount) to either move the whole engine forward 1/4" or the alternator forward 1/4" - depends on the dimensions and what you have to play with.

What does your AE/IA have to say about this? Knopp?

Re: UPDATE 8/8 -My Cessna 180 Project

Hey, I know I'm gonna win the contest... but I don't care.

Watching this thing go together is more rewarding than fracturing my pelvis on an un-named peak out of Valdez or Cordova. Those floorboards are a work of art. When it's all finished, you'd better just take a key and gouge a foot long scratch down the door. Otherwise, you will become anal about dirt and dings and never want to fly the thing out in the wild. :D

Just remember to check my email before you roll her out the door, OK?

Re: UPDATE 8/8 -My Cessna 180 Project

As long as the belt alignment will tolerate it you need to remodel or shim the mount ahead 1/4 inch or so. Alternator mounts seem to never be to my liking.
