Have you modified your aircraft? STC? STOL Kit? Major rebuild from just a data plate?

Re: UPDATE 7/25 -My Cessna 180 Project

Betting she is done by the weekend! I can promise you I will post as soon as she is rolled out of the hanger! Engine is almost in and really just waiting on my new exhaust to arrive tomorrow / wednesday. Then it all begins.
For those of you around, thinking next week sometime we will do the prop test, once she is broke in.

Will create a new thread for the Mac vs MT. Would be cool to see some of you for the test so we get a lot of eye witnesses for it.

Will post some photos here shortly. The wings with the Sportsman and Wing X look unreal!

I am also going to test with no VG's first and then with em. Even going to try them on the vertical given the new STC from micro has them on the vertical as well now.

Stay tuned...

Let us know when you're going to be testing the props. I'll come up if I can, and I can shoot some video too.

Re: UPDATE 7/25 -My Cessna 180 Project

We are coming down to the wire. Here are those that are still very much in the hunt:

Really not certain when but we are very close. If you have a date selected in the next week or so your very much in it:

Coyote: Oct 23 & Nov 14 (sorry pops) I will be at Austin!

Piperpainter: August 8th 430pm (looking very good)

Robw56: August 4th 11am and 5th 2pm (looking very good)

Jumpy: Sept (not very good)

Flyenger: August 8th, 9th, 10th, 16th, 17th 330pm (Looking very good)

Soy: August 15th 435pm, 23rd 345pm (looking good)

Akgreg: August 4th 1252pm, 9th 442PM (looking very good)

Yellowbelly: August 17th 4pm, 21st, 24th 6pm, 25th 10am (you have a chance)

NVflyer: August 6th 10am (looking very good)

Just like the price is right. Closest to the date and time wins without going over...

I had August 15th, too! I'm still in it - all it takes is a small issue to put me in high cotton!

Re: UPDATE 7/25 -My Cessna 180 Project

I am blown away here...this thread now has 5000 views...Thanks for your interest!

So I am a bit late posting some photos here as I have been laid up...I need to go check on the beast but I got bit by a dog, got me for 8 stitches in my left arm, and several puncture wounds on both. They are now infected but I think its getting under control. Actually starting to feel a lot better.

Anyway, here are some photos from the other day of our progress. I am still hearing early next week but we all know how that goes...Mechanics say one thing and it turns out to be another...

So the MT prop is winning...only because the MT shows up in a wooden crate and the Mac arrives in a cardboard box...hmm

Props, wingX, Sportsman, new engine and other stuff all in one here...

Small tires are on only for the repair job. BW's will go back on shortly.

As you can see lots going on. New baffling arrived along with new SCS interior (vinyl flooring). Leading edge exhaust is here today.

Stay tuned...

Altitude restriction on break in is interesting. Does Pponk offer different break in advice for guys based at 5900 feet?

Re: UPDATE 8/2 -My Cessna 180 Project

Take off and head downstream! I did several laps around Caldwell and knew that if I kept skimming the trees at 170 mph I was either going to get a nasty gram or hit a bird. Headed downstream to the upstream mouth of Hells Canyon and was able to get some breathing room while able to fly even lower altitude. Also saw speeds increase to 175 mph. Besides dodging flocks of migrating birds, the other exciting thing was being in a tight low altitude turn (maintaining 170 without losing altitude!) when the Prop wobbles/cycles as the RPMs fluctuate suddenly and engine power dropped off. EGTs were dropping on all cylinders, but after the initial wobble, there wasn't any vibration. Speed dropped quickly to 160 as I leveled out of the turn and reduced throttle, looking to see if I could make the airport or if I was going to put my newly engined gem in a field. Everything seemed to stabilize and I was still making power, although the EGTs were all really low! Running through everything I discovered rather quickly the carb heat control was not making any difference in the engine performance. I leaned to compensate and once back on the ground, verified the carb heat control horn had slipped, going immediately to full hot at WOT, while simultaneously causing a near slippage in the pilots innards.
My 2cents. Do a quick fight at Truckee. Leak check good and no vibration, point yourself West over the gap and spend a few days cruising the Valley. You'd be headed downhill in less than 5 min and below 3000 in less than 15 min. Blue Canyon, as well as the freeway are available, especially with a dawn departure.
SkyTruck beat me to the punch!
Just a small critique. With all the work on your wings, what kept you from wiring in some of the lightweight LED strobes for your tips?
Looking good. Good luck with everything!

Re: UPDATE 8/2 -My Cessna 180 Project

Man oh man are we trying to get this beast done. Still waiting on tach and new baffling kit to arrive. I sure hope so Brian doubtful. There is always something...

Spoke to Knopp yesterday about the break in procedures....He said...Fly her hard and stay low"....given the plane is at 4900'. Will fly her for an hour circling around the airport hoping to get 2350 / 2400...maybe. For those that were wondering, the breaking descriptions in the photo above are MSL not AGL. Will change oil and filter after 1 hour and fly her for another hour around the field hard. Will then repeat the process and check again for leaks and good compressions. Headed to the airport now to check on her. She is beautiful with the new engine!!!

One concern is how close the new engine sits to the firewall. I used to be able to fit my hand behind her. I can now barley get my fingers in behind (that almost sounds sexual... #-o :D ) She is my girl and all...Will post some more pics tonight.

I understand a tight engine area trust me! If your airplane can get a remote oil filter I HIGHLY recommend it. I have one and love it! Makes oil changes real simple and clean!

Re: UPDATE 8/2 -My Cessna 180 Project

A 10 percent increase in touchdown speed equals a 21 percent increase in landing distance.

....and a couple of MPH lower in regards to 'energy dissipation' if you do have to set it down off airport-in a less than desirable situation-can make a large difference in the amount of trauma the occupants of the aircraft experience....

Then there is the significant glide ratio increase that could make a big difference in 'options available' in a loss of power situation.....

I like to stack as many odds in my favor as possible.... :)
I like your choices, aktahoe.

I thought this was price is right rules (closest without going over), wouldn't your guess of the 15th be OVER if it was completed any day prior to then?
