Awesome! Formation flying with other well-trained pilots is one of my favorite things to do with an airplane. Anyone can pull 6G's instantaneously, but the nuances of formation in tight while maneuvering take a hell of a lot more situational awareness, depth perception and fine-motor skill than any other type of flying I've ever done. The Red Star Pilots Association puts on fantastic formation clinics all over the place every year.
The Nanchangs and Yaks are surprisingly good airplanes, too. It's funny to me that the Chinese took a good Yak and made it into an even better airplane in the Nanchang, though. My buddy's CJ6 lost
180 POUNDS of weight when he ripped out all the Chinese radio equipment (vacuum tube stuff!) and switched over to western radios and Dynon Skyviews! Now he gets the same vertical performance with TWO people that he used to get when flying solo.
