We have a TV Show!

It's official - we have a tv show! It's called Adventures on the Fly! and for now it will be on the Fox channel in Boise on Saturdays starting the first weekend in June. As more stations in other states come online, I'll let you know.

So, long story short - a tv producer (CJ) was thinking about doing an airplane camping show and was searching youtube for possible hosts. He came across the videos I had posted of my wife and I flying and camping and contacted us. We collaborated on the show details, shot a pilot episode at Fry Canyon in Utah, and started pitching it to tv networks. And then holy cow, Fox in Boise said yes! You can check out a short promo on our website (which is still in development) at http://www.aotf.tv, and follow us on twitter @AdvntrsOnTheFly.

I've talked to Zane and Chris G about incorporating BCP and Shortfield into the show, because honestly, without you guys and these two great websites, we wouldn't have ever done this. I've learned so much on here about flying and places to go that it wouldn't be right to not give credit were it's due. I also want to use you guys as a resource and meet as many of you as possible in cool locations and put it in the episodes we air.

Here's the basic idea of the show: People send in ideas (via the website) of where to go and our producer picks one. Then we fly out and meet you there. We camp over night, go do whatever it is that's cool to do there with you - fishing, canoeing, mtn. biking, hiking, canyoneering, etc. and then off to the next destination. We are also going to hide gifts from our sponsors in geo caches on every episode, and we'll give out the coordinates at the end of the show for people to go find. I have final say as to what flying footage airs, so no fake suspense!

It's me, my wife Noreen and our dog Chuck with our 170b. I hope you guys will like it!

Re: We have a TV Show!

Good on you !

Tell your producers that they might be able to grow this into a much bigger thing, by filling the void left by Huell Howser, and throwing in the coolness of aviation. You actually have a chance at that. So IMHO study all the old Huell Howser "California's Gold" and his other shows, and find a way to bring a little bit of that into your "stage persona".

Combining the aspects of previously successful shows on travel, adventure, outdoors, and visually rich sightseeing... plus the camping/fishing/hunting/backpacking... and then adding the fact that it is all done in a classic antique aircraft... into one package could be really special. Absolute best of luck, and let those of us outside of Boise know where we can find it online!

My fellow EAA chapter member Marc Webster, who posted here under "addicted2climbing', manufactures a professional grade camera mount specifically for the Cessna wing strut. I will be glad to put you in touch with him.

Ditto.

Maybe have a YouTube channel dedicated to your show, with episodes posted?

Also, if the situation permits please include some in-flight comments about the terrain, how you 'look' at the approach/ takeoff from some of the strips you plan to land at, etc.

That's for the 'dreamers' out there, like me.

Re: We have a TV Show!

Thanks everyone! We're crazy excited about the whole thing. We are working on how to get the shows out to people who don't live in the areas where it will be on tv, whether that's through our website, our youtube channel, hulu or whatever. We'll figure it out!

Ditto! That's very cool! Can't wait to see them! I'll throw out the idea of an episode for camping with the family and unabashedly offer my family as the guinea pigs! I wrote an article for the new BCP site that would give you more than enough material to cover!

Congrats! See you at Caveman!

Re: We have a TV Show!

Hey EZFlap,

Thanks for the mention. I just spoke to Allen and sent him some pics of the mount for him to look at. Hope he likes it and I hope this show does well as it is a very interesting concept.

Best regards,

Marc

Disregard the above comment! The more the better. If people experience these places they will be more willing to fight for them when we have issues or people trying to take them away. And a better understanding of what we do!
