Really interesting Slat Flap design, the slats extend the flaps when they open.

The Lysander is a very unique airplane that found it's niche in covert operations. It was largely employed dropping Allied spies behind enemy lines, mostly in occupied France during WW2. They are great STOL airplane; regularly landing in confined spaces, often at night repatriating operatives once their mission had concluded. On a blatantly patriotic note a couple hundred or so where manufactured in Canada as well.

I was fortunate enough to be able to sit in this aircraft at Harry Whereatt's farm near Assiniboia, Saskatchewan just after he finished restoring it. I think that was around 1996. Harry was an avid collector of vintage, mostly WW2 aircraft. He told us (our visiting EAA Chapter) that he had, or once had, 11 Lysander airframes. (I remember seeing at least a few of them in the back of one of his quonsets.) He traded parts all over the world and was well known to war plane restorers. During the same trip, I was able to sit in the Hawker Hurricane that he was close to completing a restoration on.
Dave Hadfield commented on how much of a climb it was to get into the Lysander and that is what I remember the most. It took some coaching from Harry to use the correct technique to get up into the cockpit and get back out without breaking or scuffing something. That visitation was one of the most interesting field trips that we ever did. Good times!

Have you ever been over to Davidson SK? There a guy there that restores P-51s and Harvard's. I plan to stop there on my next trip through.

I have stopped there a few times but not in the last 10 years. There is not much at the airstrip so wondering where he does his restoration work? How would I find this guy if I stopped (It would be right on my flight path when I go to Yorkton to visit friends)?

Ya im not sure where exactly he does them. His name is Terry and he sells trailers. His website is Fast toys for boys. He has one P51 listed for sale there.
You fly out of Lloyd? I've never stopped there, just fly to the south of it when I'm headed to Manitoba and back.

After reading about covert flights into enemy territory in Lysanders in a couple of WW2 novels,
I had the idea they were comparable in size to an L4 Cub or similar.
I was surprised to find out that they're as large as they are,
with an 870hp radial engine.

I did see an ad years ago about him looking for a P51 experienced mechanic. I see that one for sale, a restored harvard and two more P51's in restoration. Doesn't look like he has found anyone to test fly it yet. Wonder who did the engine.... No tire kickers or Joy rides! Lol
